Hey @yalebound2020 I’m guessing you got into yale right?
Son had a blast at Vision. This school wasn’t really on his radar until QuestBridge, but is now a favorite.
@Alamom - Good for him. I think it’s a must to go and try a school for a couple of days (whenever possible). I enjoyed it because everyone was extremely nice to me but not my place on earth. Good luck to your son.
Any international students here?
@limitdoesntexist Yup!! international here
@asiankid88 Awesome, which country? I applied for financial aid so I know my chances are slim
@limitdoesntexist Taiwan!! You? Haha, i think these prestigious universities aren’t that concerned about that $$$. I’m sure rice has a pretty good amount of aid money. To them, they want talent, not $.
@asiankid88 Lol just don’t want to raise my hopes. I’m from India!
@limitdoesntexist It’s alright haha. I’m pretty nervous about where i’m gonna end up at too!
when do decisions come out?..RD is crazy unpredictable -.-
People said March 25th, but that’s Good Friday. So probably around March 22-24
@CardinalSin2020 I don’t think Good Friday is going to force the admissions office to release it before the 25th lol
I didn’t come up with that theory. I was just hoping it’d be true
Last year they came out on March 27, which was a Friday. Late afternoon. Who knows what they’ll do this year.
I hate how a lot of schools are “by April 1st.” Like I need time to mentally prepare myself for the rejection. You can’t just spring it on me.
They say April 1st specifically to keep students from freaking out. It doesn’t work
How would that stop students from freaking out? They just say April 1st to cover their a$ses in case they’re not ready by the planned date.
@itsmyusername They HAVE to get them out by April 1 because almost all other schools do and there is a big marketing push in April to get all commitments in by May 1. If a school doesn’t get it’s acceptances out with everybody else, they risk losing accepted applicants to other schools and reducing their yield. What they push to do is to get them out earlier so that they can get acceptees on campus for events like Owl Days and convince them to commit to Rice rather than other schools. If applicants focus on April 1 as the decision date, they won’t be freaking out as much on earlier dates and will likely be pleasantly surprised.
For ED the “decision by” date was Dec. 15, but decisions were posted on Friday afternoon, Dec. 11. That’s why some posters are hoping for Friday, March 25, though Monday, March 28 is also possible, as is any other date before April 1.
Yeah I agree with everything you said except that “if applicants focus on April 1 as the decision date, they won’t be freaking out as much on earlier dates and will likely be pleasantly surprised” because that’s not really how it works and anyway the other factors for them are much more important than pleasantly (…or unpleasantly) surprising people.
tl;dr This is such a pedantic conversation let’s just end it here.
If they wait until 3/31 they will be competing with the Ivys and Stanford. And they don’t want to do that… the early they release, the more chances they have to sign fellows that are on the brink of a heart attack due to anxiousness.
