Rice University Waived my application fee

Rice University waived my fee because of my scores on several AP exams. I was wondering if they were more inclined to accept me because of this. Though this is a small price, if they do not accept me, they would lose money. I can't imagine them doing this for many people.

My grades are fairly far below Rice's average because of a terrible freshman year, but I meet all of the other criteria for acceptance including a great essay, great recommendations, rigor of secondary school classes and several other criteria.

They assume you are a good applicant based on your AP performance without knowing your complete profile.

An application fee waiver does not guarantee an admission. It does guarantee a good look.

Thanks. I think the other things on my application will outweigh my low unweighted GPA.

If you have a 4.0 weighted GPA, that might be sufficient.

I have a 4.1 weighted GPA

well yay u!!! don’t over analyse the situation and just be happy
like someone above said…it doesn’t guarantee admission but it does show that they are interested in you!

Thanks for your help!
