Could somebody please enlighten me about Rice Work? How much can you make a semester? I'm asking because my fin. aid is a couple thou. short of my FAFSA EFC. What kind of jobs are available? I'll end up asking the admissions office, but I want some outside perspectives.

Houston is a big city, I imagine you could make a lot dealing drugs. You might get expelled though if you get caught

Here’s a link to the Rice Student Employment site:

You need to register in order to view the available jobs.

Most of them pay in the neighborhood of $8-$10 per hour. My son started at $8 and got a raise to $9 the next year. Most of the jobs are clerical, I guess. The also hire lifeguards, graders, research assistants, etc. Jobs open up throughout the year, so if you don’t find one you like at first, keep checking.

Thanks ironmetal, I’ll look into heroin cooking, and I’ll be sure to contact my cocaine farming family near the Colombian border ; ) Tell me if you need anything milder, you seem to be snorting some really strong s**t; I’ll give you a student discount.

And an actual thank you to patsmom. Another question, can you participate in Rice Work even if you’re in the federal work-study program?

Ooh, could you give me a triple discount if we end up roomies?

Yes, you can. In fact, some of the listed jobs are work-study only and they state that in the listing. Others can be done by both work-study and regular students.

you post this in the Rice section… try USC’s forum!

Two words: egg donation.
That’s my plan if I ever lose my scholarship hahaha

Doesn’t work if you’re a guy…

Sperm banks don’t pay nearly as much. :P

About this sperm bank job… is it an x dollars/oz. thing, or is it more of an x dollars/time thing?

I thought you were a guy…?

But yeah, good money right there. I remember reading something about that on Teen Vogue.

Lol no, I’m a girl. But yeah there are always a few ads on the back of the thresher for egg donors offering anywhere from $15,000 up.

(And apologies for doing nothing to answer the original question of the thread.)

It seems the typical pay is $35-50 per “specimen.” You are required to donate 4-8 times a month for a minimum of six months; only after the six months will you be paid. So, at an average pay per specimen and an average number of donations, you could probably expect to bag about $1500 at the end of 6 months. Not quite as much as making an egg donation, but still a hefty chunk of change for doing essentially nothing.

[Donating Sperm](<a href=“Donating Sperm | Sperm Bank Directory”>Donating Sperm | Sperm Bank Directory)

Jajajaja, wow, the last thing I expected was a reply to that. Quite a chunk of change. Noted, and bookmarked = D Thanks Soulside Journey!

Wow, thats a lot of money for Egg Donation. But isn’t it risky?

^Yeah, that’s one of the reasons it’s worth so much.
