I know this isn't directly applicable to anyone choosing Cornell for a school, but I think it's a nice thing for the university. made me feel kind of proud, although on the other hand, I was felt really silly I had never heard of Feynman before I was reading the news today, I am usually reasonably well-informed about the school. I'll say for others in my ignorant position that Dr. Feynman was a physics professor at Cornell for five years, then went to Caltech for the remainder of his career. he returned to Cornell in 1964 to lecture about Physical Law, and it was recorded and broadcast by the BBC.

here's a link to the lectures (you might need to download something to make it play, and it doesn't work in Google Chrome):

and here's a useful article about it:

at least the first talk is pretty basic, if you took AP physics you'd know it, but I still found it very enjoyable. it's nice to hear of the progress of physics as of the mid-1960s from someone in the thick of it (while still being able to understand what's being said.)

in terms of it being at Cornell, I think it's especially cool how they have the chimes playing the alma mater at the beginning and the end. the label "Cornell University, U.S.A." was kind of charming too. I have to admit don't recognize any of the buildings besides Sage Hall (?) and Barton. unless I'm mistaken the hall where it was taped is maybe Statler Auditorium, or a whole different structure in that location. or maybe I'm entirely disoriented.

OK that's enough from me. summer's nice, but I'm looking forward to returning to school. :)
