really disappointed i didn’t get an email, especially considering my presidential scholarship and that they specifically cited in my admission letter the characteristics the richmond scholar site says they are looking for. i’m sorry if i sound spoiled but this is my first rejection of the college app season. i will recover and i am extremely grateful for my presidential scholarship! however it is not enough, so i am extremely nervous for my need based package on the way…richmond is my top but i just can’t afford it, which is why i was so hopeful for the scholars. but, i will be okay. you live and you learn.
Any other reports of Richmond Scholars emails?
@ikbux64 not sure but the richmond scholars website announced that they have sent all emails
I believe UR uses its merit scholarships to create diversity (racial, socio-economic, geographic, etc.) and to increase the number of first-generation students on campus. There is also a considerable amount of merit money given to recruited athletes - especially football, basketball, etc. Also, the school wants to be sure there are plenty of dancers, artists, etc. I have a current UR student who received merit from every other school she applied to - including two full-rides from two highly ranked schools. The good news is that she is thriving at the school and has had excellent teachers and classes and many opportunities outside of the classroom. It is a happy campus filled with smart, hard-working students. As a parent, I appreciate how well managed the school is and how the college is focused on the success of each student. It is a fantastic school and is a collaborative environment versus a competitive one. For those who will attend UR next year, I highly recommend the pre-orientation programs. They are fantastic and there is no extra cost to attend. They take place in August.
Unfortunately my S didn’t get an email. He loves Richmond, but it will probably be too expensive. We’ll see.
My daughter received a Richmond Scholars email. She had applied RD by 12/1. She is very excited. She is invited to come and audition in February (she plays an instrument).
@ArborS where do you see that?
Accepted w/ presidential scholarship as an international student from Russia!
Does anyone know when the need-based fin. aid packages are sent?
i got my acceptance letter on the 24th, but when do we find out financial aid??
everyone is finding out their financial aid and i’m scared… but some people have higher stats than me and got deferred or rejected, i’m sorry about that, maybe UR is trying to diversify and there’s ofc more to me than just my stats, hopefully i get a lot of money in financial aid tho
@OFF2COLLEGE2 you said that they were highly selective this year right… i kind of find it weird how i got in with lower stats
in my opinion these past few years have been all over the place in regards to admits at all colleges. sometimes i even think they appear very random but at the end of the day with soooo many applications, it can’t be, right? i can’t even believe that I am going to admit this but i’m thinking at the moment the only reason my son got into Richmond is because he is a full pay. His stats are definitely in mid- range in comparison to last year’s class profile, but I wonder because a lot of students were rejected or deffered with much higher scores than my son. I do clearly think he would be an amzing fit for the school. I also believe there was something in your app, @gherbss that the school thinks will be beneficial to the school. Maybe you play an instrument, or u may play on a team, or you had amazing extra curriculars??? u may possibly be from a state that is not normally included in thier stats, maybe you are from a diverse background. the lists goes on and on, but don’t second guess your admittance (like I am currently doing with my son). enjoy your acceptance for the moment and know that everyone will end up where there are suppose to be.
@KuriousMom Don’t second guess your son’s acceptance! Richmond is a school where lots of full-pay students apply and most don’t get in. Your son was accepted because someone read his application and thought “I’d really like being in a class with this kid.”
Fwiw, both my kids got into UR at the 25th percentile. Intelligent kids and passionate learners but each had some hiccups along the way. Nowhere near full pay. Not first gen. Don’t offer much in terms of diversity in general. Eldest graduated magna cum laude this past May and is now working in her field. Middle has started freshman year with all A’s and already recommended for a couple special programs. I think the competitive application process at these types of schools fool people into thinking only the highest test scores or high school grades belong on campus when really, the difference at the top is pretty minimal.
I still have not received anything about an admissions decision in the mail…should I give them a call? The only thing I didn’t submit on time were my first quarter grades, which were submitted days after the deadline, but the admissions counselor assured me that my application would still be reviewed for early action.
i would call them, make sure you know the name/email/etc of the counselor who told you you were still eligible for early action, if possible. i know our mailman personally is awful, so it’s possible your letter is still on the way!
i also got in with pretty low stats and got a scholarship kinda weird lol
congrats!
Has anyone gotten their financial aid packets yet?
Don’t know if this is the correct thread but does anyone know if this is still accurate? I found it on their Admissions Blog from a few years ago.
“International students that are Richmond Scholars Finalists will be admitted to Richmond, with their full demonstrated financial need met (per the CSS PROFILE), inclusive of either a Richmond Scholars award or a Presidential Scholarship.”
@Mquizling no not yet, i’m assuming it’ll come in the mail and hopefully tomorrow, because the website says february
