I don't believe Richmond will notify those who are NOT semifinalists, so before I make a phonecall, I thought I'd ask to see if semifinalist letters have been rolling in for other students who applied for the Scholars Program. I know a "few" posters have heard, but was wondering if all the notifications have gone out. Thanks for any responses!

Since the deadline of receipt for additional materials for finalist consideration is January 29th I would assume if you have not heard from them by now you are not a semi-finalist. Very sorry.

where did you get the Jan. 29th from?

I got the date based on the letter my daughter received from Richmond saying she was a semi-finalist. She then needed to send in an additional essay for the Oldham and a graded paper for the Boatwright both due by January 29th.

My D recently visited UR, and loved it. She and the others at the information session with admissions were anxious to hear more about the Richmond scholars program, and they were happy to tell each of them that they would be notified by the end of the month.

She was so excited and didn't even put 2 and 2 together as one of the people in the office was remarking about all the stress caused by the deadline for scholarships. When I checked pineapple07's post, it all came together. Finalists wouldn't find out at the end of the month, they in fact found out weeks earlier!

Why didn't they simply tell these girls the truth? I'm sure the room would have cleared as everyone realized that UR wanted $43k/yr, but that is certainly better than the first lesson UR taught these kids.
Poor form indeed!

Keep in mind daughter is only a semi-finalist and they didn't say when she'd hear about finalist status. I'd hate to think they were misleading to your d. Plus, who knows what other scholarships might be available, etc. These schools do have a lot they can give out so timing could be different for different awards. All I know is what was in the letter my d received.

TurtlePhobic, I'm not sure I understand your post. What did they say at the info session that was incorrect?

The way I understand the Richmond Scholars deadlines is this:
--Admission applications must be in by Dec. 15.
--Semifinalists are notified shortly thereafter and are given until Jan. 29 to submit the writing sample or portfolio required by the particular scholarship the student is applying for (Oldham, Boatwright, Science, Artist, etc)
--Finalists are notified, I guess sometime in February so that travel arrangements can be made. I'm not sure about the date. Anyone know?
--Finalist interviews are held on Mar. 19-21 and Mar. 26-28. Finalists can choose either session. I would guess that winners are notified by April 1, not sure about that.
