Hello everyone! I’m anxiously awaiting mail to see if I’m a semifinalist for the Richmond Scholars program or not, but I don have one question that I am having a hard time finding an answer for. If you make it as a Finalist, are you invited on to the campus for interviewing, or is it a Skype interview? Thanks so much.
When do you find out if you made it to the semifinalist round for RD applicants? And is no news bad news, or do they tell you if you didn’t make it?
Notices for semifinalists have already started being sent. @LMHLAW3 heard Dec.16th. Last year, it looks like notices went out in waves until late January. Richmond does not notify people if they do not make semifinalist status. No news is bad news. 
Yes, like stated above, semifinalists are notified by email in waives through the end of January. Those who are not selected do not receive any notification.
If you are selected as a finalist, your interview depends on your designation. Artist scholars are invited to campus to do a live interview and audition/portfolio review (its Tues-Thurs first week of March). Boatwright, Oldham, and Science scholars are interviewed by Skype/phone. Students that are selected for Boatwright, Oldham, and Science scholars, are invited to campus later so they can tour campus/ask questions and meet each other (Artist scholars don’t go to that event).

Once selected for be a semi finalist, can we submit additional materials besides the essays (updates on activities/awards/internships)?
@guineagirl96 - do you know the timing of the campus tour for the Boatwright, Oldham and Science scholars? My parents are making me wait to weigh all admission results and financial aid offers.
@Weinstein1 I don’t remember the exact dates, but it’s typically around the first week of April.
@guineagirl96 I got notified as a semifinalist late last week and am now working on the supplemental essays, etc.
Just wondering- do you know how long it took after submission of the supplemental stuff before you were notified of possible finalist status? Was it dependent on how soon you submitted your designations? And is it also the “no news is bad news” philosophy?
@srinivs I submitted 1/12/14 for both science and artist scholars and was notified of my finalist status on 2/19/14. Typically all finalist notifications are sent out mid-february through the end of february. I was one of the later ones to hear (based on the CC thread at the time). The notification date is actually dependent on when they receive your mid-year report. Because all finalists are automatically accepted to the University, they can’t release your decision (and acceptance to the school) until your application is complete. I believe I received my notification within days of my mid-year grades arriving. Semifinalists who don’t advance to the finalist stage are notified of that fact at the same time that finalists are notified.
