Hello all---

Congratulations to our international friends who got e-mails on Friday. My colleagues were still hunched over their desks when I left the office Friday night trying to get them out to you all.

For our friends here in the U.S., everything will be mailed and barring a natural disaster will leave the office in tomorrow afternoon's mail truck.

Please don't stalk your friendly postal workers! If you haven't heard by the end of the week call us to make sure we mailed to the right address--every year I'm amazed at the number of people who forget to tell us they moved in between applying and the time decisions are made. You'd have thought we'd make the "change of address" notifications for sure.

Our staff can not and will not give you an admission decision over the phone, so please don't call to fish around.

Several people have asked about scholarships. There were a handful of people that were being offered the Presidential Scholarship that didn't receive the first notifications because of problems we had getting e-mails through to those with AOL addresses. We think we have now reached all those folks, however, and hard copies of the scholarship offer were going in the packets in every case as well.

Richmond Scholar offers will start going out tomorrow as well.

While you are wondering and waiting, I know that you all are worrying about what admission officers thought about you, your record, your prospects for the future and etc. As someone whose done this job for a very long time, let me ask you to reflect this week on what you are proud of. What things you've done that we really challenging, that you really pushed yourself to achieve. No matter what happens with the Richmond admission decision (or any other school either) you get to keep those achievements, those lessons learned and battles won. You didn't learn them or fight them just to get in to college. They are yours no matter the admission outcomes and I hope you'll continue to feel pride in your various achievements. The fact that our facilities are only big enough to hold a certain number of people is no reflection on the many wonderful qualities of those who are not selected just because our dorms aren't that big.

Your success in college has a lot more to do with the level of energy and effort you will put into your work than it has to do with where this will take place. You can be as successful as you want to be wherever you go. There are solid reasons to choose a particular college over another particular college, but in the end, it all comes back to your level of energy applied to the tasks set before you. And if you were even thinking about Richmond, you are the kind of student who has what it takes to succeed in higher education.

Good luck this week and in the coming month. These decisions are big and can be frustrating (this is my warning that it isn't so easy even if you get in everywhere, so hold on to your hats!), so take a few minutes to celebrate when you can, take a deep breath and be ready for the final push to making a deposit someplace that be a great match for you!
