Richmond Scholars

UR Admissions ~

You said finalists are very likely to be admitted unless something bad happens. Does this include the need of financial aid (international student)?
I know this is usually a problem even for talented students if they don't get a merit scholarship.

Thanks!

UR admissions

when will the finalists be notified of the outcome about the scholarships?

ICSMatt--

You'll hear something early next week. Good luck! And thanks for all your nice talk about your visit--it's good feedback for us but it's also great word of mouth!

UR Admissions

icsmatt/jaybee21,etc
it would probably be much efficient for you to communicate with UR admissions directly (rather than through CC) to get the answers to your questions. just a thought!

Hi Scissor-shaped--

Yes, international students are a little more complicated unfortunately, but the good news is that we make admission decisions based on academic and personal qualifications, and don't incorporate financial issues in the admission decision whatsoever. So that probably means great things for your admission decision!

Financial aid decisions for internationals are more challenging. There are more international students who are admitted, that we'd love to have at UR who have financial need than we can possibly meet. But we are able to award aid to some. I'm afraid that part of the answer is likely to leave you hanging on and wondering for a few more days while we finalize decisions and get notifications out. International students will be notified by e-mail in order to get the information in your hands as quickly as we can, though, so do check your messages regularly next week.

Best wishes!

ICSMatt--
as far as I'm concerned, you should keep posting your questions on this site.
Other people probably have the same questions too. I'm a parent, born/raised in northern NJ, so I'm rooting for you!

My S was not selected as a richmond scholar but did receive the 15K award. It was a great offer to a great school, which we loved when we visited. But S has other great offers that are 10K less expensive, so he is concentrating on those offers first.

URich admissions person - Thank you for posting on this site. It has been very helpful knowing the inside scoop. Your comments have made everyone know how competitive these awards are and have made the non-winners feel better about their situation.

UR Admissions, my d was not selected as a Richmond Scholar, nor has she heard about any other merit scholarships. Does that mean that she didn't get one, or are there others that haven't yet been released? Thanks.

UR admissions,
one of my good friends was not selected as a scholar, and i too would like to know whether or not he/she could still receive the presidential scholarship

Yeah, I'd like to know the answers of the last two questions as well :).

I GOT IN!
Hahahaha check your emails! Oh, no, only intl students check your emails :)
The funny thing is they expect me to somehow find $47000 a year to pay for Richmond.... so I'm def not going there, but hey, at least it's not straight-out "rejected"... although it implies the same thing :)))
Good luck all !

I'll assume this means the letters were mailed....

Mnooo, I believe they will be mailed on Monday. That's what admissions told me the other day. They were in commission until yesterday so..

I also got in :) Was thrilled all the way to the second paragraph where they tell me that I somehow have to find $50k by May. I'm gonna purchase a lottery ticket today.
It sucks because Richmond is the only American university I've applied to and I really want to go there. :(

elevatorlove ~

We're in the same situation :). I thought in this case they just reject you, because technically you can't go there and they know it perfectly well... but they were polite enough to accept us and just tell us to find some $50 000... :)))

I prefer being accepted because then I can say that I got in to one of the top 25 undergraduate business schools in the US :P lol

Hello all---

Congratulations to our international friends who got e-mails on Friday. My colleagues were still hunched over their desks when I left the office Friday night trying to get them out to you all.

For our friends here in the U.S., everything will be mailed and barring a natural disaster will leave the office in tomorrow afternoon's mail truck.

Please don't stalk your friendly postal workers! If you haven't heard by the end of the week call us to make sure we mailed to the right address--every year I'm amazed at the number of people who forget to tell us they moved in between applying and the time decisions are made. You'd have thought we'd make the "change of address" notifications for sure.

Our staff can not and will not give you an admission decision over the phone, so please don't call to fish around.

Several people have asked about scholarships. There were a handful of people that were being offered the Presidential Scholarship that didn't receive the first notifications because of problems we had getting e-mails through to those with AOL addresses. We think we have now reached all those folks, however, and hard copies of the scholarship offer were going in the packets in every case as well.

Richmond Scholar offers will start going out tomorrow as well.

While you are wondering and waiting, I know that you all are worrying about what admission officers thought about you, your record, your prospects for the future and etc. As someone whose done this job for a very long time, let me ask you to reflect this week on what you are proud of. What things you've done that we really challenging, that you really pushed yourself to achieve. No matter what happens with the Richmond admission decision (or any other school either) you get to keep those achievements, those lessons learned and battles won. You didn't learn them or fight them just to get in to college. They are yours no matter the admission outcomes and I hope you'll continue to feel pride in your various achievements. The fact that our facilities are only big enough to hold a certain number of people is no reflection on the many wonderful qualities of those who are not selected just because our dorms aren't that big.

Your success in college has a lot more to do with the level of energy and effort you will put into your work than it has to do with where this will take place. You can be as successful as you want to be wherever you go. There are solid reasons to choose a particular college over another particular college, but in the end, it all comes back to your level of energy applied to the tasks set before you. And if you were even thinking about Richmond, you are the kind of student who has what it takes to succeed in higher education.

Good luck this week and in the coming month. These decisions are big and can be frustrating (this is my warning that it isn't so easy even if you get in everywhere, so hold on to your hats!), so take a few minutes to celebrate when you can, take a deep breath and be ready for the final push to making a deposit someplace that be a great match for you!

UR Admissions

Hello UR Admissions

I am very very interested in Richmond Science Scholars Program. I think I have qualities to prove myself to fit in Science Scholars program. The only thing bothering me is my SAT score. I got 1490/2400 . Does this score affect the selection process? Can I apply Richmond Science Scholars with my TOEFL score 77?

rij, this post is over 4 1/2 years old. URAdmissions no longer posts here. I would direct your question to the admissions office directly.

You’re going to need to improve your test score if you’re serious about UR. Best of luck in your process.
