When should I be starting on my FAFSA and scholarships search?

I'm currently a Junior, and I think I am pretty late. Is that true?
Any help on this?

scholarship search begins now. fafsa and other financial app, it is still too early. around november this year, start bothering you parents about getting their w-2s. i did and i got my tax returns mid january so I was the first one at my school to get all my stuff done.
i think you will use this year's expenses for next year's fafsa, but i'm not sure. if that's the case then you can't tally up your expenditures (medical expenses, etc.) just yet.
relax, you still have a lot of time

Regarding the FAFSA - I attended a finanacial aid meeting at my daughter's school in her junior year. At that meeting, the presenters (from a local community college) recommended that we fill out the FAFSA as if D was in senior year. They told us to enter the local community college as the school. I followed their recommendation and think it is a great approach.

1 you get your PIN way in advance without any deadline pressure.

2 you become familiar with the whole FAFSA process, again with no deadline pressure

3 since my D was taking classes at the local college, and since we had submitted the FAFSA, her tuition was paid because she qualified for aid. (I think this may have been a mistake, but it worked for us and saved us about $300 for two classes)

4 when it is time to do your real FAFSA in Jan 07, you simply have to do a "renewal" for 2007-2008 - change your numbers, add your schools and submit.

I HIGHLY recommend this approach.

Work on a scholarship search now. While you will apply for most of the scholarships next year, you can prepare for them now. Download the applications and fill them out. Write any essays you will need. The applications may change next year, but they should remain substantially the same. Believe me, this will save a LOT of time next year when you will be very busy with other things.
