Do all of those schools have comprehensive foreign language programs? Mine didn’t teach some of the ones mentioned on this thread. Maybe that’s why recruiters don’t like us?

C’mon, what Business/Econ major wouldn’t choose Ohio State over UPenn or Harvard?

So what if my first two years I only took 14 credits a semester? I mean, I started off with 28 credits so I only really need around 12 a semester to graduate in four years? I mean, I can take 17 next semester and 17 after that before I apply if I need to to look good, but it is really unnecessary for graduating.

Come on people, Brazil is too important of an economy in the western hemisphere for you not to know this.

The flavor of Portuguese spoken in Brazil has grown distinct from that spoken in the motherland and is very dynamic. The differences are so great that it is now taught at many universities as Brazilian. It is the Brazilian variety that I wish to speak.

@bdm,

Actually there are about 190,732,694 of them.

Any btw, you should always capitalize languages. You disappoint me, bdm.

I suggest that if you have a problem with this that you take it up with the Wall Street Journal. I currently do not write for the WSJ. I am only acting as the messenger. Did they teach you the difference at Brown? :)

@bdm,

I speak English because it is the primary language spoken in the home where I was raised. I speak French because I attended PK through 4th grade in Canada. I speak Spanish because I am Hispanic. Do you have a problem with any of this?

If you didn’t think the wsj rankings were any good you wouldn’t have brought them up. I’m just glad you took the time to educate us.

If anyone is interested here is a dictionary.

[Brazilian Dictionary](Brazilian Dictionary)

It is a beautiful language and I’m growing very fond of it. I’ve found myself listening to old Sergio Mendez recordings while playing along on my piano(yes, I have a piano in my room :).

You mad, iwbB? If I remember correctly (and I do) you brought it up.

^Dude, chill out. I was just giving you some grief because you chose to call Portuguese by its (apparently) new and not-so-commonplace term “Brazilian.” Currently, I can only think of ditzy high schoolers who think soccer is awesome and Brazilian women are gorgeous that call the language spoken there “Brazilian.” I recognize now that it’s my mistake.

I also suspect BDM and IWBB are giving you a hard time for how seriously and viciously you have responded to most of the posts on this thread. I know it’s hard to pick up on jokes and sarcasm via typed words on an internet forum…but regardless, you might try approaching some of these topics with a little bit of a lighter attitude. But that’s just my opinion.

I did bring up general prestige and academics, but you brought up the wsj rankings and are now back peddling from it because it makes you look foolish. Not mad, just amused.

“Back peddling”?! Where did you get this idea? The article was germane and directly contradicted your comment. How does posting a link to a WSJ article make anyone but you look foolish?

I’m sorry if this hurt your feelings. Try to get over it. You are embarrassing yourself.

I do MMA and a big part of a MMA is Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and none of my Brazilian teammates have ever referred to their language as anything other than Portuguese. Anyways interesting little article but seriously, this thread isn’t even premed relevant anymore.
