Rip

Last night we had to put down our dog Maxine. :(

She was a 9 year old shar pei. It started with tumors that were surgically removed this past winter, but later returned with a vengeance. The tumors on the outside would weep, and maggots even got into one. It sounds gross but they kind of did a good thing because they ate that tumor and gave us a few more weeks. It got to the point where she couldn't keep much down, which made her increasingly weak. In the past week she dropped a lot of weight. She was a small fraction of the dog she used to be.

What was so hard was she was always so happy to see us. Anytime she heard the truck come in she would wag her tail and try to bark (I'm convinced she had a tumor in her throat because if she did get a bark out she would throw up afterward.) She loved the truck and she took her last ride in it and was euthanized in the truck.

It was no doubt her time, but it's still sad to see them go. Anybody lose a pet recently? Did you get another pet afterward?
