I’m going to be a junior at my college next year, and I still don’t feel like I’m as happy there as I should be. I originally chose my school based on a specific program, but for various reasons that program wasn’t a fit for me, and now I’m in a different major. I had trouble adjusting when I first came to the school, and although I have friends now, they’re not interested in many of the activities I am or really doing anything outside of campus. This was sort of pushed to the side as after my horrible first semester, I was just happy to have people to talk to at all.
I’m currently on an exchange program, and it’s made me realize how unhappy I am with the situation at my school. Beyond the sadness of it ending, I feel like I’ve made friends at my host school that I have more in common with, and the idea of going back to my home school doesn’t sit well at all. I’ve toyed with the idea of transferring, but it feels like it would be giving up, especially since I’ve already been there two years, I’m settled into the city, and my main issue is with the social aspect. I’ve tried joining clubs, but they’re either never active or end up being extremely religious (I go to a Christian school; I don’t mind religion, but it isn’t my whole life).
TL;DR I feel out of place at my school, but transferring doesn’t necessarily feel like the best option either.
