Hi,
I am a rising senior planning to apply to Lehigh ( probably ED) this fall!
I just visited Lehigh last month and absolutely LOVED the experience!
I have some questions regarding admissions, chances, college life,.etc about lehigh.
(I know I posted a lot on lehigh forum but I still have more Q’s… sorry y’all
-
Can I be exempted from freshman English courses if I have +750 SAT WR score?
I think I have seen a thread about it, but when I asked a tour guide at Lehigh when I visited,
she said she wasn’t sure. I have 760 on my Old SAT Writing Section.
-
I got 1420/2180 on my SAT. However, my CR score is really low compared to other sections.
I got: CR620 M800 WR760 Do you guys think I should retake either ACT or SAT for a better CR score?
Btw, I am an asian female… I think this might be a disadvantage… haha

I have not taken the most rigorous courses available at my school. School does not offer APs, but some college classes. However, some of those DE/ Honors classes are very challenging, and I did not take them because I knew I would not be able to get As in those classes. I will have Weighted gpa: 4.13 Unweighted: 4.0 by the end of my Junior year.
I know the rigor of the classes is like the most important factor in college admissions, and now I kind of regret not taking all the rigorous classes possible at my school, but I guess it is too late now. I am planning to take SAT2 Chem and Math2 to at least show that I am a competitive applicant, but would it really help?

How competitive is it to get into CSB program? and IBE?
Can anyone who has been accepted to these programs share their stats if possible?
-
Any international student gotten financial aid? if yes, how much??
Are they generous with giving aids and scholarships to international students?
and is it possible to get scholarship once you are at lehigh? ( By this I mean
if it is possible to get scholarship later during your 4yrs at lehigh, even if you were not granted any
when you were accepted to the school)
Thank you all! (:
greatly appreciate any comments, advices,. about stuff I need to know!
Why don’t you contact the Lehigh International admissions rep? and the financial aid office? and a department chair, and so forth. AND, spend some time on the Lehigh website–the answer about first year English course is right there. You need to do YOUR homework.
@higheredmom Thanks for the comment. This whole US college app process is still so confusing to me, so I tend to depend a lot on the informations on CC. Sorry if this thread bothered you. I greatly appreciate your advice! I definitely need to do some more research on my own. Thank you!
ekgracee423,
I am so glad to hear you had a great experience visiting Lehigh. My son knew the minute he stepped on campus it was the right school for him. Visiting the campus so early in your search is such a fantastic thing to do!!! Good for you!
My son took the ACT so I am more familiar with those scores. But, frankly, I think you are being to hard on yourself. It is rare for any student to be equally strong in all areas. Your scores are very good.
Yes, it was a mistake not to take the hardest classes available. But, you are a 16 or 17 year old kid. Admission officers understand they are dealing with immature kids that can make mistakes. So in the fall you are learning your lessons and challenging yourself. The lessons you might learn challenging yourself might make a very good essay topic!
Yes, CSB and IBE programs are very competitive. Very hard to predict who gets accepted into those programs. But, Lehigh is very flexible about double majors, double minors and that sort of thing. It is pretty easy for you to build a very impressive program for yourself.
I have followed this site for quite a few years and I have not heard of any international students mentioning great financial offers. And they just might mean they haven’t mentioned it here. You can always ask the Admissions office to put you in touch with some of the international students. I think it would be okay to even just ask your admissions officers what kind of financial aid is available.
I can not say enough about how kind the admissions officers are. They have their jobs because they truly love the students. They like developing personal relationship with the students. And they continue to stay in touch with their applicants while they attend Lehigh and even after they graduate.
I am glad you have found the Lehigh College Confidential website. If you have any more questions or concerns just ask - that is what we are here for!!!
And again, I am so happy you took the time to visit. I hope you signed in with admissions office… Demonstrated interest (visiting the campus) is very important to the admission office. Smart move!
Best of luck and keep us posted!
ekgracie,
kikkydee has good advice and up to date info due to her son’s very positive experiences as a Lehigh undergraduate.
I also think, however, that higheredmom has a very valid point; you shouldn’t overly depend on what you see written here. As an older alum, I have followed Lehigh’s forum for some time. I can tell you that all kinds of people post here and a few of them do not have your best interests in mind. They may want to rant about their own poor outcomes or spread negative news about one school so they can make another look better. I’ve seen that one a number of times.
So, both moms have good advice and I think you should follow it…It’s usually wise to listen to mom.
Good luck. Lehigh is a great school and offers lots of opportunities for you to take advantage of. Many more than when I went.
SonofAsa!,
Yes, I so agree about posters coming on to the CC sites to use it as a place to post their negative feelings.
When my son went to school at Lehigh I had a hard copy of the course catalog and I use to read it all the time just for fun! haha. It is very easy to just google Lehigh Course Catalog and any topic and it will take you right to that subject.
Well, you even have to be skeptical even listening to Moms. Haha. I only know about the schools I have had personal experiences with - so that is limited. And my husband and I preferred sending our son to a smaller school. And we preferred to have our son NOT apply to super competitive schools that we thought would be took much for him. We wanted our son to enjoy his college experience and not be constantly stressed out over his grades. And we wanted a school that would provide social development as well as academic. And we wanted a school where he would have an opportunity to participate in academic research. We found everything that was important to us at Lehigh. But, everyone posting on CC has their own ideas and values and you would have to go back and read many of their older posts to figure out, if you could, if you agreed with their educational philosophies.
And I say it so many times but it is always important for the prospective students to remember none of us can really tell you how much financial aid you are going to get or what your chances are to get in. A small school like Lehigh could fill the school more than once with all the qualified kids that apply.
I like to stay on the Lehigh site because the college search, the application process and his Lehigh experience was so fun. And the kids that go to Lehigh are such great charming kids. It is so rewarding to be a part of their journey!
@ekgracee423 “I am an asian female”
I don’t think that will be as much of a negative as at most other schools. Lehigh is trying to improve its diversity, and is also slightly short of females. I am not sure, but It may even be a small positive.
@kikkydee @SonofAsa1 THANK YOU SO MUCH for some great advices!! And yes, I signed in with the admissions office. Went there for both VIEW program and official tour and totally loved it! Thanks again
@Much2learn that is good to know. Thank you!!
Honestly, I get some best advices and informations from CC. So thankful that I’ve found this website! Definitely will keep you all posted if there is any update.
