So, next year I will be a sophomore at UNC, and I am still looking into getting some sort of meal plan. This year, I had unlimited meals, which was clearly a mistake because I often did not eat at either of the dining halls (it's hit or miss, as you all know!).

My parents will put money into my expense and flex for food on Franklin, but should I get a block plan or something of that nature, just for convenience?

When I was a sophomore I did the 105 plan and it worked out perfectly. I used every meal, but ran out right at the end. I can’t remember how much I had in flex - I ended up going abroad so it wouldn’t be quite right anyway.

There is a recent string about this … the recommendation was 120 meal plan in the fall, with $400 flex bucks. Flex can carry over at semester, but not at end of year. YOu can add small amounts of flex at end of year if you need to. I believe that’s the summary of advice.

They changed it…it was 105 my freshman year, 110 this year, and next year it will be 120. I used 125 meals my first semester and the past three semesters I’ve had to exert effort (ie swiping people in, inviting friends who don’t have meal plans to eat) to get rid of all of them. I’m going to the 120 plan next year.
