My son is considering RIT for Biomedical Engineering. Was really impressed with the academic facilities, the program design, met with the Director of the program for over an hour and although a new program it really seems like they are on the ball. The CoOp is a big plus in my opinion especially in this field of study because after 4 years I want my son to have options (employment, MS, PhD, Med School). I did have a concern about housing as well as the room we saw was very small (not sure if it was just cluttered or it was the setup). Would appreciate any input from anyone in the Biomedical Engineering program about the program and anyone whose son/daughter attends RIT regarding the housing. Thx!

My daughter is in her second year. Different major but same dorms. I’m pretty sure that dorms everywhere are small - but it doesn’t seem to bother the kids. There are details on room sizes on the RIT site if you want more specifics …

The dorms are definitely small and the one we saw in NRH was very cluttered (boys in CS house). However, it is my understanding that many kids move into the RIT sponsored apts (or off campus) after their 1st year. I figure a small room means less actual area for my son to lose things.

Just as an aside - the dorms at the University of Alabama were nicer than any apartment I ever had and were huge. There was also under ground parking and swimming pools. Oh well.

Yeah - well - that’s what they do to encourage you to move to Alabama! Lol
My daughter is in her second year and still in the dorms… I was just there for Tora-con (the on campus comic on) and they had three people visiting and staying in the room with them… They invited my husband and I and my son in and I refused even though they said they had just cleaned up!

She and her roommate applied for off campus next term and were wait listed. We hope we hear something before the end of the term but its not guaranteed.
