RIT Class of 2019 ED Decision Page

Accepted Computer Science!!! Letter dated 2/27. ACT 33, GPA 3.8W, 9 AP classes. Used Common App - application was in mid October but applied RD.

We had to call to get the portal linked to the account as others have stated. Evidently, there is a problem with some applications sent via the Common App. They immediately updated the account and I had to log out and then log back in and the info shown on the page was updated.

Also, even though my son received his acceptance via snail mail weeks ago, his buddy here in San Diego received his this weekend. He was undeclared vs. my son who is a gaming major. I believe they send out acceptances in waves based on majors so maybe that is the hold up for you too.

Good luck.

I emailed daughter’s admissions rep, but she is out for the week, so I called and spoke to another rep. Received some disappointing news. SHe has been placed on a wait list :frowning:
She is number 2 out of 10 on the list , but it isn’t very likely that anyone who has been offered admission will decline …I can’t imagine anyone saying no to that offer since it is one if not THE top program in the country.
I am pretty upset over this. She has only one more school to hear from at this point, except for a last minute application that she submitted to a school that didn’t offer her intended major, or anything remotely close to it.
Very disappointing news…

I’m sorry to hear that @lje62. You never know, people do decline their spot for financial or other reasons. She only needs 2 people to do so. I hope everything works out for your family.

Thank you Snowdog…I can’t imagine a scenario where someone who got into that program turned it down. Financially, it is great because students accepted into NTID are only charged 1/3 the tuition , so it would be hard to beat elsewhere when it comes to the cost. Now we are very worried about her situation because only one more school to hear from and it is her absolute reach . And if by some minuscule chance she gets in , the cost is out of our range. She would need some serious luck to have that one fall into place

If that doesn’t work out, she could consider a gap year to work or possibly find an internship that would augment her application, then reapply next year? I can totally identify with your stress.

She has been accepted to two other schools , one of which might work out. We never visited it because we viewed it as a safety and it is far away from us.
The application process with her has been stressful all around, compared to her older sisters. I really didn’t think it would be so hard. The admissions rep that I spoke to this morning was somewhat encouraging when it came to her applying as a transfer student next year, but the thought of going through this process again is beyond dreadful to contemplate at this point .
It also sounds highly unlikely that anyone would not accept the spot they have been offered…it would be akin to winning the lottery twice :frowning:

lje62- would it be possible to ask if she could be put on a spring admit list as well? So many kids get to college and then decide that it’s not the right place for them and leave after the fall semester. Perhaps you can ask about that option. I know of kids who fully intended to go to a school only to back out at the last moment (Aug/Sept) when financial or health crisis prevented them from attending the school. Keeping a dialogue open with admissions and letting them know that you intend to keep applying and that you’d be willing to be a last minute admit might work.

Sorry for the disappointing news. Hopefully, the wait list dwindles quickly.

@prsmom, the major and school she applied to only has fall entry. NTID is unique because there is only one major there for hearing students, which is the one she applied to. All of the other students are either deaf or hearing impaired. All of the students there receive a reduced tuition ( 2/3 off the regular tuition at RIT )
Because RIT and Rochester have such a large deaf community, their ASL interpreting program is highly sought after.
The admissions rep I spoke to today wasn’t the one assigned to her ( because hers was out of town ) was very kind, very encouraging for her to re-apply as a transfer next year …and from what I could gather , very honest about the likelihood of her chances of being admitted from the wait list .
I can’t imagine anyone giving up that opportunity…NTID is the Holy Grail for wanna be interpreters , such as my daughter

If on the Waitlist, she should both send an email both talking about how much she loves the program, what she can offer to the program, and updates to things she has done etc. She should also ask her GC to either call or write on her behalf reiterating the same things. Don’t take this passively.

Phew! finally received merit award in the mail. This makes RIT a good contender!!

@YoHoYoho Congrats, when did you receive your acceptance letter. My son received his acceptance letter into the Film and Animation school.

@kj1963,
DS acceptance letter into animation was dated 2/17/15. The date on merit letter was 2/25/15, but we just received it this weekend, so must’ve gotten lost in mail or husband was holding the letter.

My son received an acceptance letter on Monday but it was for the physics program and not the engineering program that he applied to. When did people receive the merit scholarship info? Did it come with the acceptance letter or did it come separately? We can’t afford this school w/o merit scholarship. Right now he is looking to go to UB since it has a great engineering program, cheap tuition and they gave him merit. He also likes the school alot.

@Robgal74‌ The merit letter came in a regular sized envelope about one week after the acceptance letter in our case. Since RIT is about $10K cheaper in tuition than most private schools off the top, their merit is also lower than most schools. I believe the top amount awarded as merit is $16K per year- if that helps.

My daughter just got an email from admissions thanking her for her application…really ? rub a little salt in the wound, why don’t you

Does anyone know if RIT tends to budge on their financial aid offers? Even with a $15k grant and $18k in Presidential/NMSF scholarships I’m still gapping around $5,000 per year… with no way to pay out of pocket :frowning:

My daughter’s financial aid offer was increased on appeal.

Erm, I don’t know what’s going on…but it’s 3/15 I haven’t gotten neither an email telling me where to view my decision, or any snail mail…
what to do?

Have you seen any messages on your portal ? My daughter got one a week ago telling her to contact admissions if she hadn’t received her letter yet…
