Portal changed tonight…ACCEPTED! But not to D’s first major (understandably…she applied for PA, but her stats are not good enough). She got into Diagnostic Sonogram…so looks like she probably won’t attend.

But it is nice to see that acceptance. She LOVED RIT.

@dextersdad - thanks for the info. I was wondering if that might be the reason behind the comment to contact admissions. Will mention it to S so he has a chance to contemplate the option. Can’t the students accept into the open major and then just change majors?

:\ Portal still on the message for me… If nothing by Monday afternoon, I’ll call admissions or shoot them an email.

@student4ever - I doubt they can do that due to space constraints, or they would have accepted S into the major directly. As long as the accepted major is closely related, I don’t think transferring into preferred major after a year is impossible.

I had another question, I’m trying to access The Loop which is the social media for new students to use. I’ve tried logging in but it doesn’t recognize the e-mail I use for admissions (I did an online admissions registration and have been accepted to the school). I’ve tried sending a new password or password verification to my e-mail but nothing has been sent. I tried Friday and today but no luck. Anyone know what’s up? Do I have to pay the acceptance fee first before I can access it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Would like to meet some of my future classmates, professors, etc.

Finally, portal was updated and DS was accepted!! He was not accepted directly into his major, but into the exploration program so that any major in that department that he chose after the Fall or Spring semester of Freshman Year is guaranteed as long as he is in good standing! And, they guarantee all coursework taken in that first year will keep him on track to graduate on time. Now, just need to see the financials!!

So, today I got a letter from one of the students in my major just letting me know if I had any questions I could contact him. But didn’t receive anything from RIT yet regarding my acceptance (I found out via Portal a couple weeks ago). Found it kinda funny so I thought I’d share. :p

On a related note, for those of you who found out online that they (or their kids) got accepted, how long did it take to receive something in the mail? And what usually came with it?

Hope everyone is enjoy their Spring Break. :)

My son found acceptance on the portal on 3/16, and the hard copy’s dated stamp was 3/17 and was received by the 19th. The packet included the “Acceptance Admission Form”, deposit procedures, info re: ASD, student enrollment procedures, etc. You should probably call the Admissions Office to follow-up.

Thanks for the reply. I’m sure you’ve mentioned it somewhere in this thread but what is ASD?

Seeing as I’m going to NTID first (a school of RIT) and I live in Kansas, it may be taking a little longer than usual. I’ll give it a couple more days and if nothing, I’ll message the counselor I kept in touch with throughout the admissions process.

Ah ok. I wouldn’t be able to make that anyway ($300+ for a plane ticket?!) so at least I’m not missing out on that. The only thing I know that’s mandatory is SVP for deaf students just before school starts.

I received the packet today. Pretty excited when I got it even though I had to wait to open it since I was just leaving for class lol.

student4ever:) - How long ago did you submit the FAFSA info? While I don’t know the answer to your question, I’m just wondering how long it might take to hear about my letter.

FAFSA was submitted 2/5!! I called the FA Office and they said they were trying to get all offers out by 4/1. Keep an eye on your portal - “Complete Additional Steps/Requirements” - there is a Financial Aid link which will give you more info regarding your financial aid status, when/if FAFSA and SAR were received.

Received Financial Aid Offer, today
RIT is giving the least aid, even though it was not the most expensive. Also, they are only giving a Grant (need based which will probably be reduced to zero when DS’12 graduates) and loans, no Merit Aid. I think RIT is the best fit for my son, but the financials are not.
