Rit

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what they think about RIT(Rochester Institute of Technology). I am also considering this school. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

RIT is the best school in the world for studying photography. Also very strong in printing, fine art, graphic design, crafts such as ceramics and woodworking. Decent engineering, computer science, and information technology. Nice facilities for computer science and information technology thanks to a benevolent billionaire. Extensive co-op program.

It's a good school for an above-average student. Rather austere, modern campus. Students tend to be serious career-minded types but not all. Just starting Division I hockey. What else do you want to know?

What do you plan to study? What state are you from? Where else are you considering? What are your stats?

Hi,

Well I am looking to go into Telecomunications, Netoworking, and EE. I have a vast experience in computer technology and already have a well rounded knowledge. I am currently a student a a community college in waterbury conneticut. I am a math and sciences major and I have a 3.5 GPA.

Besides RIT and I am also looking into carnigie mellon university, Columbia, and thats my list for now. Well I look forward to advice.

thanks

I am also considering George Mason University

RIT has good programs in your areas of interest but RIT is not in the same league with Carnegie Mellon and Columbia. RIT might be a good match if the other two don't work out. Check out Penn State, RPI, U of Maryland College Park, Ohio State, Case Western, Lehigh, Rutgers, WPI, Boston U, Syracuse, U of Rochester, Bucknell.

When you say not in the same lague

are you saying Carnigie-Mellons programs are better, or just better ranked; I am looking for a very good program that I will actually learn something from, I don't really care to much about rank, even though some of the colleges are highly ranked, it doesn't matter to me. how ever, duely noted. I look forward to the advice

thanks

Well, Carnegie-Mellon is a much more selective university with an emphasis on research and with a strong graduate program. It is ranked higher in US News. Carnegie Mellon is 8th and RIT is 56th. I am not trying to knock RIT. You can get an excellent engineering education there. It might be just the right place for you, depending on what you want and need.

I considered RIT when I was looking at colleges, but the gender balance (or lack thereof) in the engineering school prevented me from seriously considering it.

If you check out the RIT alphabetical listing, you will see an indepth review of my "overview of our visit to RIT."
