Hello!

I will be going to RIT this fall. I will be majoring in Imaging Science, with an eventual graduates' major in Astrophysics.

I'd like to know an accurate perception of RIT's reputation in these majors.

The things I've read about RIT's general reputation hasn't been much to write home about. My father says RIT's tops when it comes to Imaging Science, but I'd like a less biased opinion :P (my father graduated from RIT with a M.F.A. in photography and went to UCLA film school)

I'd like to go to RIT expecting what kind of education I'll receive. All opinions are appreciated.

Thank you.

RIT is a serious school with amazing facilities and a great co-op program which prepares you well for working in the real world. The best programs at RIT (most reputable) are the technical majors, and also animation, design, the College of Business and the national technical institute for the deaf.

You have to work hard to keep up with the fast pace of the academics. Since RIT has a 10 week quarter system, courses go by fast and classes require a lot of outside work.

The advantage of going to RIT is that the best employers in the country hold on-campus interviews. Job placement is excellent at RIT because of the co-op program that is required for many majors and is encouraged for everyone. Co-op students graduate with hands-on experience at companies around the country.

As for the professors, they are passionate about what they teach and their first priority is teaching not research. There is great academic support and even the worst professors are very helpful. Basically, if you don’t do good, it’s your own fault.

Imaging Science program at RIT has a good reputation locally. Astrophysics is surprisingly strong at RIT, but new. These are two “jewels” in RIT’s “crown”.

Thank you, guys. I appreciate it :D
