Does anybody know the notification date for Oregon?

For Minnesota applicants, this was recently posted on the MN Department of Education website:

As of April 20, 2006, the federal appropriation for this program has not been made. As soon as the appropriation is announced, our office will notify all applicants of the results for this year by letter.

Anyone, has the notification for California?

I don't think the notification for Calif will be for awhile as the deadline to turn in the application isn't even until tomorrow 4/28.

Interesting...

I'm from Maryland and was nominated for the scholarship. At least for us, the principles nominate the top 1% of the graduating class, which for my school was 4 people. It was just a really simple form to fill out, no essays or anything.

I also have no clue what the chances are

In Colorado, the school nominates then the student receives an application. There are required minimum ACT of 31/Sat scores of 2040, min. GPA requirements 3.8 unw, a student essay on a provided topic, 3 letters of recommendation required, listings of school ECs, community service involvement and academic or leadership awards and the application must be typed. According to the judging rubric points are deducted if the letters of rec. do not specifically mention the Byrd, if there are typos. (1 or more) or correction fluid on the essay or any grammatical errors made by the student anywhere on the app. To top it off, the application (all four copies) must be stapled in the upper left corner. Points are deducted if it is on the right.
Kids that apply here really have their work cut out for them - if they get nominated!

you should be able to find out when your state will be awarding the Byrd scholarships by emailing your state's department of education. you can find out that address on this webiste: http://www.ed.gov/programs/iduesbyrd/index.html

I won an award and I did seemingly nothing nor even was aware such a scholarship existed. I hope I'm not missing anything here.

in sc, we got a notice today saying that they are waiting for the us department of education to appropriate the funds before announcing the winners...and we will be notified in late may or early june.

I got notified today that I recieved the scholarship.
I'm from South Carolina.

congrats steeler. i got notified today too, i didn't get it though. what were your stats?

Thanks.

1530 SAT, rank 3 out of 251, 4.0 GPA, IB Diploma candidate.
A lot of community service, leadership, and athletics - but I recall the Robert Byrd application for SC being pretty numbers based. The only part I was unhappy with was my guidance counselor recommendation, because he doesn't really try, but luckily that was only 5% I believe.

My D was put on the alternate list for our congressional district. They would not tell us how far down the list she is.

mmm54

what state are you from?

Yesterday got a scholarship award letter in Oregon.

D awarded a Byrd last week.

I got a decline letter today. In other states, is it a random drawing? That's how it is here in Tennessee...a little odd...

"Please keep in mind that applicants for this scholarship are chosen by random selection and not being selected does not reflect on your academic performance in any way."

any Californians yet?

LittleLostFlute

The "random selection" phrase in the letter really threw me off (and ticked me off). They call it the Robert Byrd HONOR Scholarship Program. How could it be an honors scholarship if it is given out on the basis of a lottery? I guess it's just the government playing their word games again...

I was nominated for Robert C. Byrd...

Only the top 10 in our senior class could have applied for it
