Robert Byrd Honor Program Scholarship

I live in Ohio and just found out today that I won the Byrd Scholarship.

I think Ohio does it based on some numbers-based system (GPA, SAT) and then extracurriculars. I'm not really sure though.

Achil... I am in Ohio too...how did you find out about your selection for Byrd Scholarship

I had my counselor look it up with some link she had been emailed...and when she looked the results were now up

Got it in Michigan! Woo.

ohio residents go to <a href="http://www.ode.state.oh.us/students-families-communities/scholarships/%5B/url%5D">http://www.ode.state.oh.us/students-families-communities/scholarships/</a></p>

any idea when Virginia residents will find out?

From the Virginia Dept. Ed. website:
<a href="http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/suptsmemos/2006/inf061a.doc%5B/url%5D">www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/suptsmemos/2006/inf061a.doc</a>

Plans are to notify all finalists of the selection by their date of graduation. However, the scholarships are funded with federal funds, and the state must receive its grant award before we can notify the recipients of the scholarship. Therefore, there is a possibility that students may be notified after graduation rather than before.

haha, I actually knew that, after reading that part when I had applied. I wanted to know if anyone had heard back or if there was an exact date. I need to work on clarity :) Thanks anway, csleslie!

any information about Californian residents?????

woohoo!! got the scholarship here in PA! 1500 a year... :)

How did you find out? I have been waiting to hear something since I qualified.

PHEAA sent me a letter in the mail...This was the first thing that I had heard since I qualified too...I'm sure you will hear in the next few days...Good luck!

I forgot to tell you Congratulations!

aww thanks!..even though i guess i didn't really have to do much work for it haha...i was never lucky at random drawings (which i think PA does?) so this is really surprising to me!

I thought that PA had a random drawing also. At least that is what it states on the application and webpage. However, when I received my qualification letter it state in it:

"The next step in the process is to take all eligible applications to a meeting of a statewide committee. This committee is charged with reviewing applications and selecting an equal number of recipients from each Pennsylvania county. You will recieve notification as to whether or not you have been selected to receive the Scholarship by the end of June 2006. NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE AGENCY ABOUT YOUR STATUS BEFORE JUNE 30, 2006."

To me, it sounds like you were selected by a committee, not a random drawing! Way to go!!

My daughter just got her letter in Texas today.

I still haven't heard anything yet...but I did get information from PHEAA about a state grant I qualified for. It isn't the PA Academic Excellence that those who do not get the Byrd Scholarship may qualify for. So, I take it that I still have that shot at the Byrd Scholarship...does that sound right to you?

Also, since I qualified for the State Grant ~ if I don't get the Byrd Scholarship, I will most likely receive something from the PA Academic Excellence program. I am happy about this....

Let me know if you understand any of this...thanks.

I got the scholarship!!!! I'm from California
I called the Robert Byrd Honor Program Scholarship Institution yesterday and asked for my status. They said that I was selected.
I was sooo happy and called twice to verify that it's true.
Good Luck to those who are still waiting!!!
This is the # that I called 1-866-CA-Grant(give them your social security # then they can tell your your scholarhip status)

Congratulations!!! My letter says not to call until after June 30th. So, I guess I can sit and wait....Way to go.....

Droopy, we are in exactly the same situation as you. DD got the letter saying she was eligible and that the app had been forwarded to a committee for review. Also got the letter yesterday saying she was eligible for a grant, but unfortuntately, she will not be attending school in PA so will not be able to use it. She will also not get the Academic Excellence award if she doesn't get the Byrd because that, too, is only if you attend a PA college. Still hoping......
