My s received notice of the Byrd Scholarship today. Hope others will hear soon! We are in Kansas.

Congratulations! I got one from WV, which was really exciting because I had forgotten all about applying-very nice surprise. Did yours say something about not being sure about funding? I have read some things about funding possibly being cut for it.

Did we have to apply for this scholarship? I think people in Illinois are automatically considered if they take the SAT. Is that true?

Cynthia, Congratulations! Yes, our letter says something about funding for the future being uncertain. I think once before the funding was cut but not eliminated. hope. . hope. .
Need help---in Kansas, it was quite an application process with six full copies of a 14-page document sent in to the Board of Education. Essays, all leadership, academic and the usual documented, letters of recommendation, etc. I have read where other states do it differently.

I got a denial letter today. I am really puzzled here. They say recipients were selected based on an objective formula which includes SAT scores and class rank. I am on top of the class and have 1580/800/800/800. I wonder if it was some kind of a clerical error. Can I appeal? After all they say it is strictly objective.

I got one! I am from Arizona. I don't have strong SAT scores but I think in Arizona they base a lot of it on ecs. I have a lot of good ECs. I am really surprised that I got this scholarship, I filled it out like fifteen minutes before it was due. Anyway my states are:
SAT 1300 (maybe a 1250 at the time)
SATIIs (not sure if it even asked for that) 650,630, 620
Really Good ECs (president of three clubs and I have volunteered a lot, play varsity volleyball, etc...)
GPA: 4.3824 or something like that. Maybe a 4.2832 at the time.

anyone from TX get their letters yet?

I still haven't received my letter but i looked on my state's byrd website and it had a list of the winners and I saw my name. google in "robert c byrd texas winners"

can you paste the link? google doesn't seem to work for me :(

I googled the website for robert c byrd texas... but I don't think they have a website. Sorry :( I can give you the one for Arizona but i don't think that would help you...

Haven't heard anything yet in Florida.

...or California...

hey. does anyone know when CA will come out? What are all of your stats and how does CA decide?

CA decides solely on the basis of unweighted GPA and uses SATI scores in the event of a tie. (For example, a 4.0 GPA with a 1450 SAT beats a 3.9 with a 1600).

haven't heard anything from alabama yet. How much money is at stake?

anitob11,

What part of KS are you in? My D has not heard anything yet and was told everyone would hear one way or another. Now I'm worried maybe they didn't receive that huge packet!

My dad called the Byrd scholarship office and after checking on my application they recognized the error. They are going to mail me an award letter shortly. So, if you feel you were wrongly denied a scholarship, don't hesitate to appeal. It might work!

wow... that's amazing.
good job ! I'm from CA and still waiting...

In Indiana...selections will be anounced June 10th.

mkmom,
