I guess the title is pretty self explanatory!
Is it necessary to submit the CA before/on Dec 1 too or is it just the Scholarship deadline?
Quoting from the website FAQ's,

Do I have to complete my application to Duke or UNC-Chapel Hill before I submit the Supplemental Materials form?

No. You may submit your Robertson Scholars Program application at any time before or after you submit your application to Duke or UNC-Chapel Hill, as long as it is before the December 1 application deadline. Keep in mind, however, that you must complete an application to one or both of the universities to be considered for the Robertson Scholars Program.

I found this slightly ambiguous as it doesn't mention if the CA has to be submitted on Dec 1 too or if they are just talking wrt the scholarship application.

Also, my answer to one of the essay questions talks about the same topic as does my CA essay. Since they do not require the CA to be submitted at the same time, does this matter? Should I go ahead with this topic or do something else?

Oh and sorry from digressing from the main topic, but I had these doubts too-

1) Does the scholarship program accept December testing scores or is there a testing deadline for that too? I couldn’t find this on the website.

2) My teacher recommendations go by post. So does my school transcript. Is this acceptablr? Do they have to be postmarked by Dec 1 or do they have to reach the program by then?

I think just the scholarship is due on Dec. 1, not the CA. For the Morehead Scholarship, this was true, so I suppose it would be true for the Robertson as well
Recs are done online, as far as I know.
I don’t think so, since the scores would be available in late December, by which time they may have made some decisions. I would call or email to make sure though

Question - Is the panel for the Robertson Scholarship different from the admissions to Duke? I wanted to use an essay I have on my Duke Supplement for one of the questions.

Okay, I know the Teacher Rec’s have to go o/l but my teachers don’t have email ID’s. So should I scan them and send them with the transcript instead?

Yeah, I’ve emailed them and the representative said that she’ll check up about my situation and reply in some time. I’m waiting for her reply. I’ll definitely get back to you when she replies back. Until then, keep the opinions pouring in! Somebody might have been in my position!

For people whose school sends the Recs and everything by post, how in the world do they apply then? Do they even exist or am I the loner? :p

Hey perfectpixie! Got your post on my thread. . . I’m a bit unsure as to what your question is at this point? Are you asking about the Robertson program in general, or something more specific? I applied last year but didn’t get too far, so I don’t know how much use I can be.

Hi DrJamesDaAZN (how simple a username :p). Thanks for dropping by.

My question now is about the teacher recommendations.

My teachers don’t have an email id so the only way I can send them through is by post and the program doesn’t want that. So, I’m wondering if I should scan the TRs as well and send them like that? (The program permits this for the school transcript).

Hey, Jimmy, since you applied for the scholarship too you might be able to give me some advice on this.
Since the program doesn’t require the submission of the CA, can the commonapp essay be modified to fit the essay question in the Scholarship application?
Thanks!

A scanned copy will probably work, but you should call and ask the program for confirmation. Don’t do anything without making sure it’s being done correctly first. Unfortunately, I can’t offer much insight on that question. . . I just did it through email.

As for your essay question, I would strongly recommend against modifying your CA essay. If I recall, the Robertson’s Scholarship application is a supplement to your college application, meaning that the program will probably see your common app essays and such, in addition to whatever you send in the supplement. Last year, all Duke applicants were automatically considered for the Robertson’s, along with Duke’s other merit scholarships. The separate Robertson’s application was a supplement, in case a student wanted to send extra.

^ Really? Because I e-mailed a women from the Robertson’s Scholarship selection committee who told me:

“Thanks for your question! Yes, you should submit your Robertson Scholars Program application materials online – separately from your materials for Duke University admissions. While our office does have access to students’ university applications, we primarily evaluate based on information submitted in the Robertson Scholars Program application (our admissions committee is separate from the Duke Admissions committee). Applicants may choose to duplicate essays for university applications at no penalty.”

Because I chose to use an essay from my Duke supplement as one of the essay questions on the application.

I did email them, but they haven’t replied back yet.
Is that really true? Is it the same for this year’s applicants too? It’d be so great to not go through the extra essays! Wishful thinking…sigh.

I guess the topic’ll have to be different then.
Thanks for your help! :)

Well I don’t know if it changed between years, but I believe all Duke/UNC applicants are automatically considered for the Robertson’s, even if it’s by a different committee.

I do remember the site mentioning that the addition application was a supplement to the original college application(s) though. . .

This is actually not true! You are only judged for the Robertson Scholarship if you do the supplemental work. Only scholarships like the AB one are for all of the applicants. I am applying for the Robertson as well, and I asked them this question.

The Robertson scholarship is not directly run by Duke or UN,; it’s a separate group.

The committee does have access to your college application, but they will not look at anyone’s application besides those who sent in the supplemental stuff.

I apologize; I was misinformed. This is what it says on the website.

The Robertson Scholars Program application supplements a student’s application to Duke and/or UNC-Chapel Hill by providing information specific to the Robertson Scholars Program’s criteria. Students interested in becoming a Robertson Scholar are strongly encouraged to complete our online application, due December 1st 2010 by 11:55pm EST. While all students who apply to Duke or UNC-Chapel Hill are automatically considered for the Robertson Scholars Program, applying directly is the only way to ensure that the student’s materials will be reviewed by the Robertson Scholars Program admissions team.

Does anyone know if our recommendations have to have been completed if we want to submit our application? I’ve finished my parts, but one of my recommenders is not finished.

my recommenders cannot submit their recommendation because they are getting the same error.
did anyone contact the scholarship program about this? did they reply?
