Robertson Scholars

When you apply for Duke, are you automatically considered for the Robertson Scholars Program?

If you do decide to submit the recommended Robertson Scholars Supplement, will this be considered independently from your Duke application, or will all your submitted worked be used in assessing your application? I just found out about this program, and if I decide to apply, I have to write 3 long essays and 3 short essays before December 1st.

Waiting till now is pushing it a little. I’m pretty sure that you have to submit the supplement, because I read somewhere that while the committee has access to your common application materials, they primarily look at the supplement.

EDIT: “The Robertson Scholars Program application supplements a student’s application to Duke and/or UNC-Chapel Hill by providing information specific to the Robertson Scholars Program’s criteria. Students interested in becoming a Robertson Scholar are strongly encouraged to complete our online application, due December 1st 2010 by 11:55pm EST. While all students who apply to Duke or UNC-Chapel Hill are automatically considered for the Robertson Scholars Program, applying directly is the only way to ensure that the student’s materials will be reviewed by the Robertson Scholars Program admissions team.”

This scholarship is pretty competitive, so I would imagine if you want a realistic chance, you should probably do the supplement.

The supplement is “recomended.”. That pretty much means that you more than likely will not get the scholarship if you don’t do it. Best of luck though.

^I agree. It’s in your best interest to do the supplement.

Is anyone getting this error when accessing the application at: https://my.robertsonscholars.org/admissions

"We’re sorry, but something went wrong.

We’ve been notified about this issue and we’ll take a look at it shortly."

Yes. I have been getting an error message when accessing the application since the weekend. I contacted them yesterday, and they are working on it. But today I get the error message even earlier.

My only advice is to be working on stuff as text files so that you can load it into their form as soon as it is back up. Don’t panic; I am confident they will work with us on deadline issues.

Ok, thanks… I was kind of confused. Shouldn’t they increase the deadline because it is their error and not ours?

Can you please tell me if the following are the EXACT questions that the recommenders will have to answer and submit(i took them from the FAQ) so that I can tell the recommenders to work on them?:

In your opinion, what motivates the applicant to take action, affect change, and succeed? How would you describe his/her potential to be a leader among others and play a significant role in his/her communities, today and in the future?

Recall a time when you have seen the applicant in an uncomfortable situation. Describe how he/she adapted to challenging circumstances and what was the outcome of his/her response.

In comparison to his/her peer group, how does the applicant set himself/herself apart? Please specifically state what are his/her strengths and opportunities for development.

It was up again for several hours today, but appears down again. I am sure they will work with people if problems continue.

My D was able to submit her application yesterday (mid afternoon) with no problem and no error messages. Good luck everyone.

I submitted my application late last night and had no problems. I hope the technical issues some are having are solved. Good luck everyone, hopefully we’ll hear from the program in March.

I hope they get solved soon! :frowning:
I’m not able to access the site at all! All I have to do is final revision, work on one of my essays and press “Send”. This is pure torture.
Should I contact them or wait it out?
Plus I’m an int’l so it’s night here which means I’ll have to stay up all night randomly entering robertsonscholars.org every few minutes. It’s horrible.

Could somebody please list the essay questions here? I’d be very grateful. I don’t remember the full topic for the one I haven’t finished (something about a person you disagree with but still admire???)

^I sent you a PM with the essay topic.

^Thank you for that.

Now it’s not letting me submit. This is impossibly irritating.
I’m going to wake up at seven in the morning and try again. (It’s almost 4 in the morning here). If it still doesn’t let me submit, then I’m goiing to blow the roof. Six essays is not a joke.

Well! I was able to submit it!
I’m so happy atm that it’s finally over!
Now to wait till march?

I was an idiot and waited until 1130 to submit my app because I was nervous… Now it’s saying it is overdue! Anyone have any ideas?

Honestly, I don’t know if there’s much you can in this situation. The program’s made it clear that they don’t want to have to deal with any last minute issues. I hope you’re able to find a way to get it in, but if you’ve read through some of their website, or their reminders or updates, they’ve stated it clearly:

writergrl94…same thing happened to DS. He emailed them and received this in reply:

Due to an unfortunate technical difficulty, the Robertson Scholars Program online application closed one hour before the scheduled deadline of 11:55pm EST on Wednesday, December 1st. Our sincere apologies for this inconvenience!
The application deadline has been extended until 11:55pm EST on Thursday December 2, 2010. Please be assured that you will be able to edit and submit your application before this time. We anticipate that the application will reopen by tomorrow afternoon, December 2, 2010.
Thank you for your patience.

you can submit it tomorrow…

^I bet that’s a huge relief. I’m glad they extended the deadline.

I know Harambee that it was 11:55, but I thought I had had 25 more minutes so I was freaking out a bit. Very glad that they acknowledged the glitch! Can’t wait for it to go back up so I can submit!

I am glad they did that. It would be a shame to have technical glitches cost them good applicants.
