If anybody could help, I have a few questions regarding the Robertson Scholarship.

First, can the recommendations used for the Robertson supplement be the exact same ones submitted to Duke through the Common App?
Do the Academic and Mentor Recommenders have to be different people?
Finally, could I use a debate teacher as an Academic Recommender?

Thanks!

You should send in letters from the people who you believe will best be able to write on your behalf - if there’s overlap between the Robertson and Duke/UNC applications, I think that’s ok.

But I think it would be best for the academic and mentor recommendations to be written by different people.

Your mentor letter should be written someone who can directly comment on your “leadership, innovation, and collaboration” as well as your “character, motivation, and sense of community” (from robertsonscholars.org).

Your academic letter should be written by a teacher who can comment on your intellectual curiosity and academic excellence. If you think that your debate teacher is that person, then you could use him or her, but I think someone reading your application might wonder why you didn’t ask someone from a core academic subject. Perhaps your debate teacher might be better as your mentor rec.
