The Robertson Supplemental Form states:

"I am aware that the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill hosts two independent merit scholarship programs: the Morehead and the Robertson. I understand that a student may not be considered for both scholarships at UNC-Chapel Hill at the same time, and I have chosen to apply for the Robertson scholarship program. (This choice applies only to the Robertson Scholars Program at UNC-Chapel Hill; students may advance as finalists simultaneously for the Morehead at UNC-Chapel Hill and the Robertson at Duke.)"

Should I select to be considered for the Robertson only at Duke, will it just be as if I had never completed the form for UNC, or will they be notified that I wish not to be considered for the Robertson?

The reason I ask is because I know you can be still selected as a finalist for the Robertson without the form, so I wonder if I could, at least in some capacity, be considered at UNC for both. If they are notified that I wish not to be considered, I think I will not complete the supplemental form at all so that I could be considered for both.

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. From my understanding of the process, admissions will have the list of Morehead school nominees and won't consider those folks for at large Robertson nominations. The only way they would consider such applicants for the Robertson is if they submit the Robertson supplement, which would essentially nullify their Morehead nomination. There's not really any way to "game" it so as to be considered for both.

If you are a Morehead-Cain finalist/nominee, you will not be considered for at-large nomination for the Robertson at UNC-Chapel Hill. Likewise, if you fill out the Robertson supplement and mark UNC-Chapel Hill, you will not be considered for at-large nomination for the Morehead-Cain.

And -- I think this is what you are getting at -- if you fill out the Robertson supplement and mark Duke, you'll only be considered for the Robertson at Duke. The program will review your file with others who applied to Duke and may not even realize that you applied to Chapel Hill.

Sure, it's possible that UNC-Chapel Hill admissions will forward your application to the Robertson program, but only if there was no way you were under consideration for the Morehead.

The only way to be theoretically considered for both is to express interest in neither and then hope UNC admissions forwards your file to one of the programs. But this is very risky, as very few applications are forwarded. And you would still only be evaluated by one of the two program staffs for a UNC scholarship.

The only way to be considered for both programs is to fill out the supplement for the Robertson only at Duke and then also be nominated for the Morehead-Cain at Chapel Hill.

Reminder to everyone: The deadline for the Robertson supplement is this Monday, December 1st. See Robertson Scholars: Homepage
