Thanks, speedsolver! Yes, she’s going to accept. She has already taken several UDub classes and made lots of friends on campus so she knows what she’s getting into.

Congrats!

I don’t know if anyone is still looking at this thread, but I was thinking of applying to the UW academy this year. Does anyone have any tips? What kind of extra-curricular activities should I be doing? I honestly don’t know if I have any chance…

Thanks!

What year are you now? (Also, I’ll respond to your PM)

I am also thinking about applying to the UW academy this year. Any extra advice/experience would be really appreciated regarding the program. Even if there is the slightest chance I will be considered, I am willing to go through this process.

Go for it! The 2015 application materials are now posted at <a href=“UW Academy - UW Robinson Center for Young ScholarsUW Robinson Center for Young Scholars”>https://robinsoncenter.uw.edu/programs/uw-academy/. Attend the info session is on Nov 20 (register under Apply Now at the above link).

Well, I got in after an appeal haha. Pretty sure I was the only one who got in that way. I won’t be using college conf anymore so just mail me if you have any questions ethanbas(at)gmail(dot)com
I’ll tell how it really is.

I am a soon to be 8th grader interested in the uw academy- what should I do from now onwards so that by the time I am applying I will have a good chance at getting in?

School Type: Large Public IB School
Ethnicity: Asian

Reflection:
Strengths:
Most importantly, I emphasized my biggest interests and most unique aspects. I showed what made me different. I focused my essays entirely around my faith as a Christian and how being a relatively conservative Christian in a liberal society has taught me cultural sensitivity. I owned who I was.
Test Scores, and extracurriculars especially, were good. The engineering conference was a huge plus.
Weaknesses: GPA
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Essays, for sure. Embracing what made me different, and writing about my passions definitely showed in my essays.
I know this is an old thread, but could anyone help me with my chances of being accepted?

School Type: Large Public School
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female
Reflection:
Strengths:
Being Asian in a predominantly white school used to make me ashamed of my culture. But now I embrace it.
Taking and passing AP HUG in 8th grade might seem good, but passed with a 3 so I really don’t know. APs look good, and also took a bunch of honors classes.
Weaknesses: GPA
