Son applied Dec. 1, feels like he’s been at step 3 - second reader - for weeks.
i applied mid december ish,still on 2
D is also on Step 4. She applied before December 1st to be considered for the 5 year GEAR program. Unfortunately, she did not make the first cut (was not invited to interview), but will still be considered for regular decision. It’s very competitive!! From what I can tell, URochester is a fall back school for many ivy league hopefuls. We did not apply to any ivy’s, but I’d be interested to find out if others did.
@jmek15, I’m kind of in that boat. Rochester is essentially my “fallback” to Cornell and penn, I guess
Not really the case for me. I applied to ivy schools (Cornell and Columbia) but UofR is still tops my list.
Definitely my first choice school. Would love to go there.
D always thought she wanted to go to Brown…until she visited Rochester. When she was making up her mind about where to apply ED, she had to decide between the two. Rochester won.
To clarify what I said previously, I haven’t visited Rochester yet. If I get in, I will visit, and it very well may become my number 1. It all depends.
Applied on Halloween and I’m on step 3. Don’t worry; it takes a while. It took over 2 months to switch from step 2 to step 3.
My D applied to Cornell as well, but Rochester is her number 1 school. Cornell was on top, until we learned more about UofR and visited. Now it’s #1 by far!
D got hooked during our two visits as well. On one hand, I’m not quite sure why, because the buildings definitely show some wear and tear, the ChemE lab we toured was downright dumpy, and I’m not a fan of the I.M.Pei-designed Student Union building (personal opinion :)). Plus, the bookstore has moved a mile off campus, and the cafeteria food was the worst of any school we visited. But the people are incredibly smart and friendly, and the curriculum is perfect for students who don’t like being told they have to study things they aren’t interested in. Finally, it seems like the arts are valued at least as much (if not more) than sports. The pros definitely seem to outweigh the cons.
Simon Scholars Case Competition decisions were released today! I was really excited to see if I was chosen or not. Turns out I wasn’t. I hope this isn’t foreshadowing my admissions decision in the future. I’d be crushed if I was denied.
@minohi Don’t speculate! I wish you good luck come admissions. I think last year we had close to a 100% acceptance rate RD on CC, though I may be completely wrong and just remembering things incorrectly.
My son is still on step 2 and he applied in mid December. Also, it says they still have not received his test scores, and those were sent off in December too! Should we call the admissions office to ask about this?
I would love to visit eventually. I’m curious, how far do you guys live from Rochester? One of my biggest issues is how far I live (about 7 hours away by car).
I live about 6+ hrs away by car
We are a 5.5 hour drive. Six hours with a stop or two. But it’s not awful b/c it’s almost entirely highway.
how did you find out? Also how did you apply?
About 10 hours by car. Not too bad.
It’s 5 and a half hours for me from Michigan. We cut through Canada instead of going through Ohio and Pennsylvania and all that jazz.
7.5 hours here. We visited in early November. If my D gets in, we will be going back in April to explore the area a bit more and the city…and I’m sure spend too much at the new bookstore!
