**Rochester 2019 RD Discussion Thread!**

@jamesjunkers check out this blog - http://blog.enrollment.rochester.edu/blog/blog-admin/what-kind-of-scholarship-can-i-get

They used to have a great page on their website that had a dozen or so student scenarios (e.g., SAT scores, level of EC involvement, awards, etc.) with the amount of aid that would (theoretically) be given to that student. You could use the scenarios to figure out where you might fall in their aid spectrum. Unfortunately, I can’t find it now so they probably removed it. My impression was that they don’t give a significant amount of financial aid unless you are really exceptional. They get a lot of highly qualified applicants, so getting merit aid is competitive.

@jmek15, thanks. I’ve actually read that before but I find it sort of relative. I feel like the numbers expressed are more coincidental than purposeful, meaning that they really carry no weight besides research purposes.

Jamesjunkers, check out this website: http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg03_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=117

According to this, for the 2013-2014 school year, 29.5% of undergrad students who had no financial need received merit aid averaging about $12,000/year.

Yokennyr - Rochester doesn’t have EDII - do you mean ppl who submitted their app by Dec. 1st? How do you know that the decisions were sent out?

They do have EDII. It is not advertised and is primarily for academics who did not apply ED1 but who decided they would like to go to URoc as their first choice. It is also for athletes. I believe it is by invitation only and is binding like ED1. They are notified a month or two before the regular decision applicants.

@UofR @ZhaoEllen ED2 letters mailed yesterday, so they should arrive in the next few days. You can also check MyROC.

Got my acceptance today for ED2, and I sent in the ED2 form as early as possible. I have heard that they didn’t send out all ED2 yet, but they will send out the resat today and tomorrow. Good luck to the rest.

Congrats!!

@NinePlusTen‌ If you don’t mind can you share what your stats were? I mean you don’t really need to be super specific about it but if you could just give a generic description it would help us know what an admission requires.

By the way congratulations and hopefully we’ll meet in the fall!

Hi guys! Do you know if any possible scholarship letter would come with the admission letter? I know it’s a very long shot, but I’m curious. I know they said that applying by December 1 and interviewing would help.

I believe scholarships come after…

Stats:
I interviewed, it went very well. Had a conversation about mountain biking, skiing, and the outdoors with the guy.
~680 all parts on the SAT one sitting
3 sport Varsity Athlete
Special selective academic program at my high school senior year
Public High School ~3.9 GPA, took all AP classes offered, did well on all the tests
Non BS community service
Good recommendations, including one from an Alum
Honor Society and all the rest of the usual stuff…
I think what got me in was the fact that I had a lot of varied extracurriculars that I actually did… also that interview.

D submitted the app at the end of October and has been on Step 3 for the past 6 weeks. Does anyone know if all apps go to Step 4 (committee review) or only those where there is a disagreement between the two readers?

Can anyone say definitively whether there is priority review this year?

There is most definitely no official priority review this year. Whether or not their is an unofficial, apply early decide early, I cannot help you.

@collegeizlyfe When S interviewed priority review was mentioned, but he recently contacted the admissions rep that interviewed him and his reply was, “I must have misspoke, you will hear in March.” So, it is confirmed that there is no longer a priority review.

Son advanced today to stage 4 - under review by committee.

I moved to Stage 4 today as well. Best of luck to everyone!

Agree with @ProudMomx3 that there is no priority review this year. There was a recommendation to apply by November 1 even for RD if you wanted merit scholarship review, but that is not to say that people who applied after did not get such review as well.

@green678, where did you hear about the Nov 1 recommendationn for merit consideration? We toured the school twice, attended admissions & financial aid presentations, read everything we could find, and D went to the URochester visit at her high school, etc., That recommendation was never mentioned. Believe me, when merit deadlines are discussed, I pay attention
