Rolling admission notification date

Rutgers says on the website that they will notify you of their decision on February 28th, but I've heard that this is just the last possible day they will notify you if you apply exactly on their deadline (December 1st). Is it true that the earlier you apply, the sooner you find out? How much sooner would it be?

My son got his acceptance e-mail today for Rutgers-New Brunswick and Rutgers-Livingston. He applied in September, and his high school counselor mailed his transcript on October 11th. His SAT scores were ordered Labor Day weekend.

Congrats to your son!! Is he planning on going there?

Did he apply to any of the other Rutgers colleges? I really don't understand how it works. I applied to Rutgers College, Douglass, Livingston (all as one choice on the apps), Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, and University College. So do you get five separate acceptance/rejection letters?

That was a very long waiting period for his counselor to mail the transcript. Do you think this is typical for all guidance-sent transcripts?

Thanks for your kind words :) Not sure if he will be going there or not. He really liked it when he visited, but he is applying to 8 other schools so I think he will see where things stand when he hears from the others. He likes the fact that it would be "not too far, but not too close" to home. His sister goes to another school about an hour from home, and it has been nice for her to be able to get home relatively easily. There is a much smaller school that he also really loves, so we'll see. He will probably do an overnight visit or 2 when it comes time to decide. We know several people who go there (one at Rutgers College, one at Busch and one at Mason Gross) who love it. However, I also know of someone who was in the Honors program and did not like it at Rutgers. There is a fair degree of "Rutgers bashing" at our high school (probably because there are so many NJ kids) , but we have gotten good feedback, for the most part, from those who actually attend.

He heard initially via an e-mail which congratulated him on his acceptance to Rutgers. It arrived on Sunday morning. The e-mail said that he had been accepted at "one or more" Rutgers campuses, but did not identify them. Later in the day, he was able to log in using his Rutgers username and found out that he had been accepted at both Rutgers College (the College Ave. campus) and Rutgers Livingston (Arts and Sciences at both locations). We need to do research so he can figue out which one would be best for him if he goes there.

Unfortunately, his experience with Guidance sitting on the transcript is not unique, from what I hear. You may want to verify that yours has been sent out. At the beginning of the school year, they are busy with schedule changes. I have reason to believe that the only reason that the transcipts even went out was that I called his counselor to inquire about status. My son got several lettters stating that his application was complete except for the transcript.

I sent my app online on Oct 23rd and got my acceptance letter today! stargirl, I applied to Rutgers, Douglass, and Livingston, and the letter just said that I got accepted to all 3, they don't come as separate letters.

Thanks for replying!

jess, congratulations!! Did you get it by email or snail mail? A friend of mine applied around end of October and found out exactly a week later. I finished applying Nov 4th, I wonder how long it'll take to find out. I'm very anxious...are you planning on going to Rutgers?

Thanks stargirl! It was weird, I just decided to check the status of my app online and see if they had gotten my transcript yet (my guidance department isn't exactly reliable), and I wasn't even thinking about checking my admissions status...a minute later, and my dad brought in the envelope! Then I saw on the site that it said admitted, lol. So I guess I found out both ways! Rutgers is more my safety so I'm not really planning on going there, but you never know! Good luck with your app.
