First off, you know they don’t superscore the ACT at MSU or UMich :P.

Anyway, you know that your GPA is on the pretty low end, but with that said your ACT is pretty high.

Before I give your chances, can you tell me what your weighted is? Or what your class rank is? It would give me a better context of your school.

JUST based on that, I would say low match to reach. Only because of the GPA. If there is an upward trend, or if you do really well this semester, then your chances improve greatly. If your grades are on an upward trend then I would expect a deferral followed by an admission if your grades head upwards. :)

Your ECs are very good though which could give you a boost in. Their admissions are so tricky right now because I know rejected people with 3.2s and a 32 and I know accepted people with a 3.0 and 24. It really doesn’t have a whole lot of rhyme or reason it seems to me sometimes. Also, when did you apply? You know that chances decrease dramatically as time goes on.

Good luck!

You will probably be deferred because of the GPA but receive an acceptance later in the year. They will want to see 7th semester grades to see if there is an upward or downward trend.

State is also known to offer acceptances for January term and then offer September acceptance during the summer months.

thanks guys. it might sound like an excuse, but its hard to do well in school especially when you are studying overseas away from your family with a relative who’s having problems of her own. anyways, my sophomore year sucked *** but since then the trend has gone up dramatically (~3.8 Jr year) (around ~3.8 Senior year 1st semester). I believe my weighed is around 3.5-3.6… and top 50%ish? Our school is very competitive.
If you ever heard of Forest Hills Public Schools you’d probably know.

Sorry, I haven’t :(. Anyway, that is a pretty unique circumstance. Did you or your counselor write about that on your app somewhere? That is a VERY big hurtle to conquer. I applaud you for doing so.

In general, I would say it’s too low of a GPA for a decent chance of acceptance. HOWEVER, in light of the special circumstances, I’d say you’re leaning towards in especially with that weighted GPA.

Do you mind if I ask why you are living here and have you thought about what that might do to financial aid?

Yes, I’ve talk with the admissions officers and my counselor about it, so I’m not really worried about financial aid right now… just getting in is worrying me haha

Well good luck to you Moricarak, keep us posted on what happens ^.^

Oh, just out of curiosity, what are you planning on going into? (I’m just a nosy person lol.)

Going to major in Pre-med

Your weighted GPA is near average and test scores are above. Your seem to attend a competitive high school and overall reviewing your application if your considered a in-state student I think you have a very good chance. My larger concern is your class rank, seeming that your not at least in top 25% or 30%… the school may very well accept a great amount of students from your school, but your ec’s will likely help you stand out. Did you already apply, early? If so I’m surprise your not already admitted.

Haha, Coolbreeze, thanks for pointing it out because I didn’t notice that the OP put his weighted GPA later on (it’s finals week, so pardon me for missing it lol :)). Anyway, OP, that weighted GPA does improve your chances quite a bit :). The only thing working against you right now really is timing.

Coolbreeze, I looked up his school and it does appear to be a pretty competitive school and district. I’d say it’s more than likely a feeder to top Michigan schools so I wouldn’t worry so much about the rank.

Yeah I’d say you have a solid chance for admittance. Your weighted GPA is decent (although your unweighted by itself may be a disadvantage) and your ACT will definitely be working in your favor. You may be deferred but if you keep 1st semester senior grades up I’d say that you’d be in for sure.

You could get in. I was accepted today with a 2.6gpa and 1420 sat(all three parts combined) and I’m estatic. If you show your personality through your essays ANYTHING can happen. Don’t worry about getting rejected or deferred, it causes wrinkles : ) good luck and keep us posted!!!
