Alright this is crazy...
Just received my room assignment, and they've placed me in Cumberland.
I submitted a doctors note for the A/C, and ResLife said that an A/C room is 100% guaranteed. It doesn't look like Cumberland has A/C rooms... It says 'NO' A/C on the website.

Is it possible that they installed air conditioning and didn't update the website as yet?
Plus, my room preference still says 'Suite', but they've placed me in this traditional. CRAZY!

gibbusoft, I know a few of the rooms in the high-rises have attached bathrooms and are technically rooms for disabled students. Maybe there's something similar with A/C? I have no idea, but someone from ResLife should be able to straighten it out.

I know for the past couple of years they have reserved a floor in La Plata Hall for freshman who need the AC accommodation, but I suspect that more likely they'll put A/C frosh in the Cambridge community dorm that just got AC...can't remember which one at the moment.

from searching the UMD site.... this was a project list for Dec-Jan during winter break for Cumberland Hall:

"Continue installation of new wiring and electrical outlets as well as mounting brackets; 1 per room for future air conditioner installation (Floors 2 through 6)."

Also, the Young Scholars summer program was here, and a fan was NOT on the list of items to bring!!! Sounds to me like you're gonna be fine (and cool!) I suspect they just haven't updated the chart on the ResLife page, or maybe they won't change it to "yes" until all floors have a/c????

I finally got my room assignment this morning so I was happy enough. Now I come on here and realize that I'm going to have air conditioning. I'm on the 3rd floor in Cumberland.

actually, they put AC in Cumberland this past year. you can see the AC boxes on their windows. i had a couple friends in there and apparently they werent allowed to use them haha. so no worries, gibbusoft. i think Cumberland is the only building in the Cambridge community to have AC..

My son was assigned to Ellicott today; I think he has a triple because there are three slots - one with his name, one with his roomate's name and one says "vacancy." Does anyone know this dorm and how big is a triple? Thanks.

It depends on whether it is a planned triple room or not. D was in a "planned triple" in Denton last year (same floor plan) and it was snug (think of 3 girls and a boatload of clothes, etc. etc.), but cozy. If it has a place for 3 names, but shows one as a vacancy, it's probably a planned triple??? Those have a bit more floor space than regular rooms, but still only have 2 closets :(

astrophysicsmom: thank you very much for your post. Yes, it does look like my son's room is a planned triple on the 5th floor (I could see his room thanks to you showing me the site. What dorm is your d in this year?

She was accepted into the Language House....she'll be in St. Mary's (directly across from Stamp and she can probably get up and get to her physics am classes in about 2 minutes!). I suspect she'll spend lots of time with friends from her dorm last year, in their new digs.... I know she'll miss the ability to find a group of guys to play cards with in the lounge at 2:00 a.m.!!! (the female:male ratio at the Language House is huge).
