Well after 30 tense minutes of countless reloads we finally got into room selection. Son got his first choice of dorms (Ridegecrest East), the floor he wanted, and the bedroom he wanted. Thanks to all who gave us the info we were looking for to help decide!!

Ridecrest South had 7 total bed spaces when son checked it after reserving his room. Ridgecrest East still had quite a few suites available for those wondering.

Hopefully UA will upgrade their servers for times like these. If it was this bad for room selection I can only imagine how it will be for football tickets.

Started trying at 7:01EST and still no luck over an hour later. Now all the non-honors kids are logging on as well for the first non-honors selections so it is going to be even worse.

Just keep hitting the back button and retrying. We finally got all the way through. Almost every level stalled at some point and we had to just hit back to the previous level and try again.

Good Luck!!

Make sure you don’t back all the way out of the process once you’ve gotten past the 1st level. Just hit back once and then re-try your selection.

I’m not even getting far enough to have a screen to go back to.

From the MyBama main screen, I hit the “On-Line Residence Housing Application” button. It pops up a new window - and that new window will not load. It just generates an error message.

I understand your frustration lGreen. we had the same issue for a while then finally got through that screen and to the next where we stalled again.

Just be sure once you get past the 1st level to just hit the back button once if you get an error so you don’t lose the level you’re at.

I’d really NOT recommend logging completely out once you get past the 1st step. By hitting “back” once you will stay at the same step in the process and then retry.

Like others, we have been at it for over an hour to no avail. I reached housing at about 6:30 CT and was told to keep trying. I called back 30 minutes later and reached a recording but it said the office hours, nothing about the system being down but I’ll call again. We’re disappointed and wondering about the big school issue, too. Yesterday, during the chat, they said this never happened. I was told the same on the phone today - that this was a first. Hours to sign up will be over soon. Disappointing but we’ll see what they do to make it right. Like others, we arranged our day around this - I just hope we get some choices.

I wouldn’t worry about it being a “big school” issue. It seems like there was a glitch in their server that was causing all these problems. I’m sure they’ll make it right. Good Luck!!

Wow, I just logged on and saw all the threads about last night’s meltdown. Exasperating to say the least, especially when contrasted with the flawless performance of the system in March.

Alas, machines break down from time to time. I would take the UA representative at her word that this is the first time a crash like this has occurred. And one of the upsides of a big school is a big community of resourceful problem solvers, such as all of you good people here on CC. It was impressive to read how quickly folks encountering last night’s problem turned to the UA thread on CC, and how quickly folks responded, including those who already had gotten their rooms.

It’s the people at UA, and here, who impressed us most and led my son to choose Alabama. Last night’s rally on CC only reinforces that choice for us.

When we had the much more minor glitch in Feb (took 15-20 min to fix), the housing people received a lot of calls, but they quickly got the problem corrected. That minor glitch happened during office hours. I wonder if this was worsened by the fact that this happened when school was closed.

We’ve signed up for housing 6 times (4 for older son, 2 for younger son) and the only problem we’ve ever had is the minor glitch in Feb.

As for rooms. I think there will still be rooms available even after today. Last summer, there were still honors rooms available which is why they filled the remaining rooms with non-honors students.

M2CK is correct. There will plenty of rooms left, including those in the honors dorms, when you log on for housing. Even if you do not get the perfect selection the first night, remember, you can move later.

One of my son’s roommates (Lakeside West) is non-honors. He originally was set to move into another dorm. When all the housing was opened up late last spring, he looked around and eventually found an opening in my son’s suite. There also will be some honors kids who may sit on a waitlist now, get off that waitlist and withdraw from Alabama. There will be some National Merit kids who receive a late offer from another school (my son got one 24 hours before he had to turn in his paperwork at Alabama) and choose to go to that other school. There also may be some upperclassmen who decide during the summer that they want to move off campus.

So do not worry. There will be rooms available.
