Roomate Finder

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I do not believe UVA has an official roommate finder. Everyone should fill out the profile on this website so a bigger pool of applicants will be available: roomsurf.com

This website asks questions and pairs you up with people similar to you. Like I said, right now the pool is small, but we can all make it bigger and maybe meet someone cool!

Haha got it

People meet here, on facebook, etc. We used to have a few sites - uloop, mailing lists at UVA (the Curry one and the Engineering one for graduate students for example)…

Every year this company spams our students. Housing DOES have a matching process, though it is quite simple and straightforward.

Every year, our students develop their own roommate survey system through their class Facebook page. UVA students do not need to pay a third party to find roommates.

@"Dean J"‌ Thanks for clearing that up. I had a bunch of classmates filling out roommate questionnaires for different colleges and such and was not clear on whether or not UVA would offer this.

That company has employed some sketchy tactics in the past ([going back to 2008](http://squaredpeg.com/index.php/2008/12/18/facebook-pay-attention/)). They have tried so many different ways to catch on. Back in the day, they started by creating “Class of 20xx” Facebook groups for hundreds of colleges using fake Facebook profiles to admin the groups.

They are why so many colleges and universities now start the groups for their students and hand the keys over right away. I don’t want to manage your class page, but I don’t want some random non-UVa person at the wheel, either. So we have two ambassadors start the groups and they turn them over to the First Year Class Council when it gets elected.

Okay, that was probably too long. If you want to know more, the link I posted will send you down the rabbit hole.

@"Dean J"‌ I think that that’s the way to go. Notre Dame invited all of its EA admits to a special group in a specific Facebook app, but I kind of feel like I’m being monitored. The Facebook groups of other schools that I have been accepted to (unregulated) have been getting absolutely spammed with promotional websites.
