So one of my room mates is moving out and I want t know if I'll get a replacement but I don't want to call the housing office and call attention to the fact that my room has a vacancy. Will I be notified if they found a replacement and told their name/contact info like in spring?

mhmm.. good question.. ask the housing dept.

I was wondering the exact same thing...

you are guaranteed a replacement, but you might get one. If you don't get a replacement, your room will suddenly get a lot more inhabitable

If you don't get a replacement you will be charged the single rate !

^^That's not true, is it?

^
i don't think so... lol

Last year in Bowles, one my neighbors lost one of their roommates in the very beginning and lost another for spring to move into a co-op to save some green. In spring, only one of the two slots were filled. Their fees were not modified. They are not allowed to charge you if you aren't assigned you a roommate. My sister got lucky like that her first semester in WiSE with no roommate (she was a sophomore spring semester transfer (she reached 60-units early)).

Thanks for all the replies. I don't want to call housing because if they haven't assigned anyone to my room i don't want to all attention to the fact that there is a vacancy. Do spring people not get the name and contact info of their roomies before they come like we got for fall? Seems like it'll be an awkward way to first meet your roomie without any kind of email or calling before.

No.

Don't forget that there are spring admits. And if you're in a Unit # Double, the spot will be filled up (most likely I mean)

My neighbors from last year never got forewarning that they would be having new roommates

Wait. So you can leave the dorms if you want to for spring?

Yep, you're allowed to break your contract for Spring. Some people do this to move into their frat house.

I am thinking of doing this for the spring semester BUT on the site, it says that you will be responsable for the payments if no one takes your room. HOWEVER, aren't there spring admits who want rooms?? So is it relatively easy for you to break your contract and move out without paying for the room until someone takes it?

yes, it's very likely someone will take your spot. but just keep in mind it's not 100%
