i have some very random and generic questions:)
what are the odds of getting stuck with a tripple? is there wi-fi on east? oh, is there a grocery store near freshman dorms? how about smoking-can you smoke in ur room?i highly doubt that... so what's the smoking situation in general?

umm i can answer some of those:

-Most likely wont get stuck with a triple because there are very few of em and considering some people request them they probably take most if not all of those slots.
-There is Wi Fi stuff in Bell Tower and some of the nearby dorms get service too i think but overall there isnt. They have highspeed connections in every room. West campus on the other hand IS wi-fi
-Whole Foods (expensive grocery store) is real close to east and their are other options as well.
-No smoking in the buildings... dont know any "situation" for em other than that.

I'm sure you can smoke outside, unless North Carolina adopts draconian California-esque smoking bans.

I have two questions:

Do the halls tend to get loud at night (especially during march madness, etc.)?, and
Are the doors soundproof?

Is Duke strict about having alcohol in Frosh dorms?

I hardly ever hear noise at night, although sometimes it might get somewhat louder for a few minutes after a game. This usually isn't too late at night anyway, so it doesn't matter.

The doors seem soundproof enough, but they aren't perfect.

Rooms aren't reeeallly soundproof... at least in Pegram I felt the walls were kind of thin. It was only annoying when my next door neighbor practiced the electric guitar (apparently we were the loud roommates). Halls are on the loud side during the weekends, but not unbearable during the weeknights.

East Campus is technically a dry campus since you're all under 21. It depends on your RAs whether there'll be a strict enforcement of alcohol. Mine on my floor were very chill and as long as we weren't drinking with the doors open, running down the hallway screaming clutching a fifth of vodka and screaming along to "Born in the USA" (someone did it), etc. they wouldn't bother us. She knew we would have mini-parties in our rooms and she was completely okay with that. Other RAs go out of their way to bust people.

There's no smoking in the buildings. No one really breaks that rule with cigarettes. But go ahead and smoke outside... no problem there.

As for Wi-Fi-- it's really the luck of the draw. All the common spaces have wi-fi, and my room was right across from a study lounge, so we got their wi-fi signal. For some reason this year on West, my room also has Wi-Fi.
