Roommate Connections?

D will be a freshman in pre-nursing and she would like to find a roommate who wants to be in the nursing FIG. She is very social but not a partier, health conscious, and has to work hard to keep up her grades. She has posted on the official FB group for anyone interested to DM her, but hasn’t had any success. Anyone have other suggestions for her to make connections? Thanks.

I too haven’t had any luck with the Facebook group. It’s hard when there’s ~2,500 people on there. I don’t really know of any other way to meet people right now other than Facebook, but I know that ROAR (the housing system) seems to do a pretty good job matching up random roommates since they ask questions about the person and their preferences.

What’s the name of the Facebook group? I’d like to join it! I found one with 222 members but not a big one like you’re describing

“Mizzou Class of 2019”

What about the ■■■■■■■■ website? There are a lot of kids who look for roommates through ■■■■■■■■.com.

oops, I guess I can’t post websites. It should be room surf without the space.

Thanks for the suggestions! She is a member of the larger group, and she’ll definitely try room surf without the space. Any other thoughts are welcome.

@2inCollegeSoon My DS is a junior at Mizzou and has lived in the dorms for all 3 years. He has gone through the ROAR process and been fairly lucky with his random roommates. I am very familiar with the Nursing FIG and can tell with fairly good confidence that the kiddos living in Nursing FIG are all good kids and serious students. Getting into the nursing program at Mizzou is very competitive, so having a fellow pre-nursing student as a room mate could be very helpful for studying purposes.

Thanks @CoMoMom! We worry that there are so few spots in the Nursing FIG. D should be able to ROAR on the first day and won’t have a preference for her exact room location. But it seems that there are only two floors in Galena for the FIG. I assume your family’s experience worked out?

@2inCollegeSoon‌ Overall, my DS has had very positive experiences in his learning community/dorm. He has made many friends and has been an officer for the dorm student council and has enjoyed teaching younger students “the ropes”. He got along well with his first year roommate (who moved out to an apartment second year with girl friend). He also got along exceptionally well with his 2nd year roommate (who also moved out to an apartment second year with girl friend). His 3rd year roommate experience was the least positive experience, but this roommate left the university after the fall semester ended, so life is good.
