Wow, I know this is pretty early, but I decided to start getting ideas for my essays. I'm stuck, though. The other essays I have an idea. For this essay, I really want to show a more comical side of me (the others are serious). The message that I want to send is more a preference though; it doesn't explain why I prefer it. So the question is whether this essay is too risky? Thanks.

Unless you know it is for sure too risky (you getting in trouble with the law, etc.) then it probably isn't. Feel free to PM me and I can read it over and see what I think.

hey thanks for responding. alright, ill get to work on it then =). thanks again.

Hard to tell what you said from what you said. I think that - if you can pull it off - it is important to show more than one side of yourself, and comical is good. The Stanford essays really give you the opportunity to do that, and I think that is something they are looking for.

well basically i want to say that i like love music than any other. and thus in my spare time i listen to it. but im not sure if this really shows me much. o yeah this is essay is more like a preference. i also have an alternative where i might write about a trip i had to yellowstone park.

I think the most enjoyable essays I've read have been analogies. For example, personifying your life as a box of crayons or in my case presenting myself in the food I eat.

I suppose this could work for music too, just be wary of hyping yourself up as the Super-Duper Power Chord.

I don't know what you mean by preference here, but I did explain why I like the kind of music that I do.

IMHO, such essays are all too common now. People end up trying to be unique just for the sake of being unique. In fact, Bryan Nance, an MIT admissions officer, clearly said that he's sick of reading essays which say "life is like a box of chocolates". (I don't have a link handy, but you should be able to find it easily enough.) Just my $0.02.
