So my roommate is leaving mid semester to live in a different hall (without Reslife's permission). I think he's telling Resnet he's leaving. Does anyone know if I'm getting a new roommate and what this procedure is?

Last year I was a freshman at Maryland. My roommate second semester dropped out of school and I was left with a double to myself in Cumberland. I never got a new roommate, but they told me to be prepared in case someone were to move in. It’s very possible that you won’t get a new roomie, but it really depends on the numbers and if anyone wants to move in this far into the semester.

There may be someone in a triple who would love to move to a double. That’s how my son found his current roommate when his original one left. If you know someone in that situation who you already get along with, that might work out for you.

Have to ask how are they moving into a new room without approval?

That being said, I think what you should expect is no new room mate if they do it on the sly. or your original roommate to say HEY I’M STAYING!

More importantly for you, move onto the future and start lining up your roommates for next yr…that draw will be the make or break. They have moved on with their life and you should do the same.

You haven’t really said whether you want a new roommate or not…If you do, by word of mouth, you can probably find someone who’s not happy in their current situation and would move in. If you don’t, especially if your roommate is doing it “on the sly”, you may have your room to yourself. However, via RA’s, etc. the word will go out… There’s always a chance that you’ll get an email from Reslife telling you to expect a new roommate to be moving in within 24 hours, without necessarily telling you who it is.

I don’t think he’s moving out on the sly per se. He is telling resnet that he’s leaving my dorm, but he’s not telling them he’s moving into someone elses- it’s saving him a ton. And it’s not like I have anything against it cause I lived with my brother last semester to save 4k.

Also, I dont mind if I get a single, actually I prefer it :). Maybe Im weird, but I guess an 8AM every day would make me have to sleep at 10 every night, that most wouldn’t like haha. My current roommate never comes to the dorm to sleep already- he stays over in a different hall. He said he’s leaving officially Friday?

Haha I hope that they don’t fill that spot. I wanna combine my bed together with the other >D. I guess if they don’t fill it by a month before exams I’ll do so.

Ill be checking with friends to see if they want to join me in the suite :). Thanks for all the replies!

After I posted our DS called me and he has his fingers x’d that his mid yr roommate will be removed…guess it does happen!

WHY? because he dropped 2 classes and is now carrying 9 credits.
