I have 2 roommates. They share a room and I have mine to myself. Their bathroom is inside their room and my bathroom is across the hall from my room. I am able to lock my bedroom door from both the inside and the outside. However, I can only lock my bathroom from the inside and it’s just locking the handle, no dead bolt or anything. I’ve caught my roommates in a lie about using stuff in my bathroom. I’m livid and tired of their immature childish games. Can someone please tell me how to handle this? I pay for my own cleaning supplies, toilet paper, etc. Therefore they should leave my stuff alone. To even touch the handle of the door is crossing a boundary.
You are lucky enough to have your own room that you are able to lock. Get a basket, put everything you care about from the bathroom in your basket, and keep it in your room. Not a big deal- the school year is almost over.
You have determined that you live with at least one liar. I suggest you purchase a small trunk and lock away the things you don’t want bothered in your room. I can understand how there may be times when both roommates need to use the toilet and I wouldn’t begrudge someone access to the facilities, toilet paper, soap, and paper towels.
A question – do you pay different rent based on you having a private room and if so is a private sole-use bathroom part of it? I could see how there could be misunderstandings since that bathroom in not in your room.
@TQfromtheU Good question. If you are paying more than they are, you have full right to have sole use of that bathroom. I guess you can’t stop them using your bathroom when you’re not there, but you don’t have to make it easy.
School is almost over - probably the best thing IS to just take all of your stuff in and out with a tote - yes, even the toilet paper. If there is no quid pro quo, why do you have to subsidize their bathroom needs? They can use their own tp/soap/towel.
@Undercrackers You made me laugh! Not a square to spare for the roomies? No, I’d leave the TP, soap and paer towels because I wouldn’t want nasty people spreading germs all over the apartment. Now, I would put the Cottonelle wipes in my tote.
