roommates want all top bunk :|

Top bunks already have a railing, although I would have to say that they are not that sturdy. 5ft 2, I would say you won't hit your head. And yeah, it is kind of dark under the loft.

bottom > top.

So...you're a bottom?

That's what she said.

Tell them that your religion mandates that you have the top bunk, and they are discriminating against your religion.

Here's the real sneaky strategy: suggest you take turns, and arrange to take the bunk you want first. Chances are by the time you're due to change, nobody will want to.

You're kidding right? Bottom bunk is so much more convenient. I can't think of any reason why top bunk is better, besides the fact that you won't get crushed if there's an earthquake.

If you get a top bunk, make sure you delegate desks accordingly. Don't have your roommate step on your desk just to get to their bed.

@tum: 5'2" is still pretty short, I'm 5'11" and never noticed a problem with the ceiling being too low. I was in De Neve by the way. Don't know if it's much different for other buildings. And no you will not fall off. If you do, I'll give you a cookie. :P

Well the thing about bottom bunk is visits crash there constantly. Some people have issues with that.

Reasons why the top bunk is better:
- You get more privacy
- You don't really have to make your bed cause no one will be able to see it anyway
- You don't have to worry about other people hogging/using/dirtying your space (when compared to the bottom bunk)
- If your roomie decides to stay up late to study, you won't notice the lights as much
- It's less noisy up there (harder to hear people moving about, especially if they're preparing for an early class)
- To feel like a little kid again? haha
- You won't have to fear anyone wetting their bed on top of you

To Demon: Lol, I will be waiting for my cookie then >:]

Reasons why top bunk is not better:
-Higher risk of hurting yourself every single day climbing up and down. Sprained ankles on this campus FAIL (I speak from experience...Not that I sprained my ankle on the bed. Damn crosswalk in front of De Neve...).
-The bottom bunk is like a cave...therefore it's usually the darkest when lights are on.
-It's so much easier to jump out of bed in the morning and turn off your alarm across the room, forcing you to actually get up and go to class instead of missing it. (That's like a true statistic. I had bottom two years and have never missed a single class. All my roommates who had top bunks missed tons of class cause they kept cell phones as alarms by their beds cause top bunks have nowhere to leave normal alarms and they often turned them off and missed class).
-You don't have to make your bed just cause you have the bottom bunk. This is college, no one actually cares.
-If you are watching a movie and have a TV at school, usually the bottom bunk is in the best position to watch it, and you will always have first dibs.
-You can build forts soooo much easier on the bottom bunk.

Remind yourself: Which bed would you rather have if:
(1) you are stumbling in drunk at 4 am.
(2) there is a fire.

I think we all know the answer.

why would you ever want the top bunk :/

(2) there is a fire.

Dude if there was a fire I'd just jump off the bed. Its not THAT high and I've done it a few times, its fine.

But you sure are right about the drunk thing. LOL getting up a top bunk drunk is pretty hard. LMFAO.

^My friend at Cal said she had a roommate for orientation who came in drunk late one night, and my friend had the greatest time watching her roommate try to get up to her top bunk. Took her like four minutes, she said.

"(2) there is a fire.

Dude if there was a fire I'd just jump off the bed."

LMAO! Seriously XD

I saw one of my floormates try to open the door to her room while drunk. She tried 8 times, dropped her key like 2 times in the process, then gave up and went to another floormate's room instead. LMFAO

Hmm so I'm like a germaphobic and I really REALLY want top bunk. If I can't get top bunk this quarter, I think I might have a big issue.

How do ppl stop visitors from sitting on your bed neway? I'm just so scared that someone will sit on my bed. I don't know how to explain this but i think i might have OCD. :( I need top bunk

My roommate has serious OCD about germs (and had the top bunk). Some of our friends/suitemates and I once were filming a mini movie while she was at work and we let our suitemate's boyfriend onto her bed to film a scene. She would have never known but she came home and we showed her the hilarious footage from the film and when she realized someone had slept in her bed she freaked out and spent the next two hours washing all of her sheets (even though she had a back up she could have used and it was 3 in the morning).

The gist is...even on the top bunk you're not safe...But if you are OCD about it, you'll probably never know about people sitting on your bed...Unless your idiot roommate films it with a camera.

(By the way, OCD is such BS...that same roommate of mine used to take naps in my bed, which was the bottom and I let everybody sit on it...So she obvs had no problem sleeping on a bed people had sat on...OCD is just code for "fake reason to be selfish about your stuff").

:)

if you have OCD definitely explain it and most people would understand, let you take the top bunk and make sure no one goes on it...

do doubles have lofted beds?

you can loft them if you want to

ummm no ill stay close to the ground

I remember walking into a double in Rieber where they had made their beds into bunk beds...So much floor space! After two years in a triple I'm still jealous.
