Rose Hill vs. Lincoln Center Campus

Which one's better?

I heard that the Rose Hill campus is nice, but I really like being right in the middle of the city, so Lincoln Center seems a little more appealing to me...

rose hill = more residential, more majors offered, more typical college-y feel, bronx

lincoln center = more of a commuter campus, more arts-y major, less of a typical campus, middle of manhattan

so yeah. but dont forget that there is a commuter bus thing that goes back and forth between the campuses all the time, and there is a subway stop literally a few feet away from the rose hill campus that takes you right to manhattan in like fifteen minutes.

This is the reason why I submitted my supplement at the last minute. I picked Rose Hill because it seemed like the best of both worlds

I live in the city...so Lincoln Center wasn't too appealing since it meant I couldn't dorm so I chose Rose Hill, but I did visit both. Even thought I didn't want to go to go Lincoln Center it really is gorgeous, but Rose Hill is def more your typical college. I would say if you want a mix, Rose Hill is for you because you the college campus but in an hour you're in the nicest city in the world(well I'm a little biased lol)

I can't speak for Rose Hill. But Lincoln Center:

Benefits:

It is in Midtown/Lower Upper West Side Manhattan (Right on the border) which makes us basically in the center of the center of the world. We are a block from Columbus Circle, which also means a block from one of the main subway stations that leads to all other places in the entire world.

This has a lot of benefits: good food nearby, a really safe area & safe campus, good shopping, easy to find a job, etc...

It is a campus in the middle of Manhattan so though you won't get the typical college experience you have a 'homey' feeling and a community there that is safe and wonderful.

If you know where to look, the campus can be beautiful. And there are some amazing views.

The student body is very friendly. Not snobbish at all. And if you are a friendly person you will make friends really easily.

The commuters v. resident situation allows for a lot of diversity in the experiences that people have had within Fordham. It is really cool if you make friends with commuters/residents you get a whole new schema of how to relate to Fordham.

It is really easy to get involved and if you will, you will meet really amazing, intelligent, welcoming people and you will never have time anymore because there are tons of events going on all the time.

It is more challenging academically to be in Lincoln Center than Rose Hill. Only by a little, but I have heard professors say that they expect more of us.

Wednesdays off is easy to get! Yay! :)

You never have to go outside in the cold if you don't want to, because the dorms and the class building are joined together.

The dorms are AMAZING. Rose Hill does not have the new apartments like we do. It is amazing. If you get housing, definitely take a tour. I can't even imagine living in one of the Rose Hill dorms. I am not high maintenence, but I have gotten used to a comfy lifestyle here at LC...

There are people of every kind at LC: artists, actors, dancers, pre-med, pre-law, philosophy, psychology, communications... the only thing we dont have (well, the only really big thing) is business major. You can minor, though.

Fordham funds students going to shows for free, restaurants, museums, almost anything. If you sign up, it is completely free usually.

Laundry is free! No quarters!

We have high technology classrooms that are awesome.

Shortcomings:

The library is like a basement. The campus doesn't have gorgeous architecture or rolling hills or lots of gardens. It is a square block and they try and make it work.

Half the student body has to commute which means if you live nearby you may not get housing.

The gym is bad. But you can take the Ram Van for free to the gym.
The food is bad (but a lot of people still eat there, plus whole foods is a block over).

There is no party scene. There is a small group of people that go clubbing like every night of the week, but besides that there are no big parties on campus. Instead people usually do things in the city together or drink together in small groups, etc.

The events held are usually attended to by the same groups of people. The people active in FCLC all pretty much know each other. If you make yourself active you will discover a great community that will support you, but don't expect the rest of the student body to show up necessarily. The rest of the student body pretty much does their own things.

For girls, it can be a bit difficult to find a good looking, good smelling straight guy. Some do, don't get me wrong. But this is a common complaint.

And it is not the typical college experience. So do not come in expecting it to be. If you want beer and jocks, go somewhere else. Lincoln Center doesn't have em.
