I’m currently a freshman at rose and am thinking about transferring to UIUC. I will be atleast finishing out my freshman year here and transfer for the Fall 2016 semester. I will be applying to transfer regardless if I am sure I want to or not just to keep my options open. I’m planning on visiting early next year and touring the civil department.
It isn’t that I don’t like it here at Rose, it’s just that I’m wondering if I would be happy elsewhere. UIUC is close to where I live so I know the area and I know a lot of people in the area. I’m not too concerned about not being accepted. Rose-Hulman is hard to get into and so far I’m doing well in all my classes.
Any advice or encouragement would be great. Thanks.
Think hard about what you expect to be different and better at your transfer school. One difference will probably be larger class sizes and less attention from profs (no grad students at RH). I think your plan to visit, then apply and make up your mind if accepted seems like a good plan. Keeping an open mind until spring gives you a good chance to settle in at RH.
What is your financial situation? I assume you would be in-state for UIUC if you are accepted.
Don’t be too confident of acceptance – engineering is harder to get into at UIUC than a lot of other majors, I think. Keep your grades high at RH.
Thanks, yes I am definitely trying to keep an open mind and try to be involved at RH. Yes, it would be a lot cheaper to go to uiuc.
