Ross Business School- should I apply pre-admit?

Although I am interested in applying for the Ross School of Business as a preferred admission freshman candidate, I heard that if you got denied from Ross pre-admit, then you cannot apply for it again at the end of your freshman year if you decide to enroll in UMich. Is this true? If so, where is the source for this? Can I re-apply to Ross if I enrolled into another university freshman year?

The thing is, I have no extracurriculars centered around business. I only considered business/finance as a potential career last summer, and even now, I still am not really sure what I want to major in. The chances I have of getting rejected from Ross are much higher than my chances of getting in. If what I said above is true, wouldn’t it be a better idea for me to try getting admitted into LSA freshman year, build my interest in business 2nd semester of HS senior year and freshman year (maybe start my own business, join DECA, FBLA, start a finance related club?), and then apply to Ross at the end of freshman year?

I simply don’t want to take any chances just because I have no background in business. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, even as a Ross pre-admit, the information regarding the application process has been confusing because I keep on hearing contradicting statements regarding how the process will work for future years. From my understanding, it is true that if you are rejected as a pre-admit you will not be able to reapply. Also you can apply transfer from other universities though it is much more difficult.

I’d say applying early action would be the way to go as Ross is looking to make its upcoming classes more dependent on pre-admits. Here on campus, I’ve heard/seen a lot of people who are thinking of applying to Ross, so with even more limited spots, I’d think it would be more competitive.

Regarding a no business background, one of my friends who did get into Ross had no DECA, BPA, or any business experience before hand. Myself and 2 others Ross pre-admits from highschool did do DECA or BPA, so it all depends on person to person. Your application will not be solely dependent on business. In my own application, my Ross portfolio article was more based on community service rather than business.

It is confusing to decide on a major, but to know what your options are from the start, applying EA would be the right choice. If you get accepted, you can start out as a Ross pre-admit in LSA, so you could use your first year to explore different options with the reassurance you always have Ross as an option.

If you have any more questions regarding any of the latter, I can elaborate later.
Edit: Just wanted to say, if you don’t get a response on your thread then you shouldn’t repost your info as a comment in someone. It’s not nice.

We toured Michigan last month with our daughter. Ross is now filling about 80% of their class with pre-admits…which is different as to how they did it a few years ago. They were very clear…if you apply to Ross now to get a pre-admit and you do not get accepted you can not reapply during your freshman year if you choose to go to Michigan. The remaining spots in the class are for transfer students and current students at Michigan who did not apply to Ross before. You basically have one shot to get into Ross…now or later.

Yes, they changed the pre-admit ratio last year. Now it is mostly direct admit.

If think it’s something you would enjoy, the best time is now. As it’s been said above, Ross recently flipped the pre-admit percentage from 20% to 80%.Your best chance is obviously to try pre-admit. If you are unsure and wait until later, your odds get drastically worse

I had basically no “business” EC’s in high school and got in. What they want are excellent scores, essays, and EC’s that show you’ve had leadership in some way. Business experience not required

The transfer route is still open for current UM students, so if you think your application is marginal for Ross you are better off applying to one of the other UM schools, like LSA.
