ross business school

hey i'm a senior right now and i'm looking to major in finance in college. i've been looking at umich ann arbor but i'm really confused about the business school there. if i want to get in, do i have to indicate perfered admit to ross on my app or do i just apply to lsa or engineering and then apply to ross in jan of my freshman year... also does checking off perfered admit to ross change my chances of getting into umich at all

R B S

this question has been asked sooooo many times :]

Unless u have great scores and stats, don't bother doing PA. Checking PA on ur app doesn't hurt or help ur chances getting into Umich. You can always try again after frosh yr. provided you do well academically that year.

Sheesh. Can't anyone use the search button these days anymore?

yea thanks for the input
... i guess i could have found it sooner or later but there was like 200 results when i searched earlier and the first few didnt help

You should check the PA box. The stats needed to get into the PA program this year were: 31 ACT, 1419 SAT (2 sections), and 3.8 Michigan GPA. The PA program also places a great deal of emphasis on the essay. So, even if your stats aren't fantastic, you may still have a shot if you write a great essay. It seems like most people are able to demonstrate their passion for business, such as starting a business, leading a charitable cause using business principles, etc.

P.S. You need a thick skin to get going on this forum. Most people are pretty smart and have little sympathy for the new guy or gal. I got pounded when I started and almost quit. My advice is to keep at it... you're doing the right thing by asking questions. The search feature can yield some unhelpful results depending on how the question is asked, etc. At other times, it's a great tool. I got admitted PA and asked the same questions you're asking. Best of luck!

Also, check out the Ross BBA website. Ross does not have majors or concentrations, such as finance. They are known for taking a holistic approach to business training. However, you can take extra finance classes and note on your resume that you have an "emphasis" in finance... at least that's what last year's BBA Program Bulletin says. Also, download a copy of the Bulletin... it has a lot of great information.

P.S.S. The stats noted above are "average" stats, so there will be many PA admits with stats lower than these. Again, your passion for business must come through in your application and essay.

Unless you have great business cred, you might not want to bother with it. I had a decent - but not great - background and better stats, didn't get in.

are SAT IIs a factor when applying pre-admit to ross?

No, SAT II's aren't even a factor when applying to Michigan period. Haven't you asked thisquestion before?

i did and i called umich to confirm but they said it helps... so i was confused

Someone from my school got into Ross and Stern with a 31 ACT and a 3.6 GPA taking a fairly rigorious schedule. Asian female, unhooked, instate.

They put a HUGE emphasis on your essay and your recs. Family friend has connections with Ross and she told me that if you made it past the "LS&A cutoff" (you get accepted to LS&A first, then they send your app to Ross) then they don't really look at academics much because most of the kids are qualified. They put a HUGE emphasis on your essay and your recs and how much business EC's, etc. you did.

Yes, I agree with badkarma, lots of emphasis on experience and interest (essays), these are probably just as important or more important than grades.
