Ross Mathematics vs. Upenn M&TSI, which one is better?

Thankfully I have been admitted into both Ross and M&TSI.
I'm wondering which one is more worthwhile, particularly in regard to College Admission.
Any idea?

Thank you very much.

Sadly I don’t know much about Ross so I wouldn’t be the best person to answer, but I did apply to M&TSI. I haven’t heard back yet so I was wondering whether you asked for an expedited decision or if you didn’t and just heard back?

@leiqiu, when were you accepted to M&TSI as I am still waiting for their decision. DId you get it expedited to meet another program’s deadline?

Pros of Penn: Small Admission Rate, 50 kids, from Ivy league School
Pros of Ross: Geared specifically towards math, Critical thinking, outside the box math, seems more intensive IMO.

In the end it is your choice!!

@youngster9‌ @Dilan412‌ I did ask for an expedited decision.

Nice job. I just emailed them Friday because I have to give my decision for another program. Do you mind posting your stats so that we have an idea of what it takes to get in.

@Dilan412‌ What stats do you mean? SAT?
What programs do you apply beyond Upenn?

Like GPA, SAT, ECs mentioned. Basically what is put on the “What are My Chances Thread”. I applied to Launch at MIT, Yale Young Global Scholars (accepted), Stanford EPGY.

@leiqiu @Dilan412 What were your stats (SAT, gpa, essay content)? I was rejected and want to see which area I was lacking

I’ve also been admitted to M&TSI but do not get into Ross. But personally I think Ross is better. I heard that Ross is extremely selective and more prestigious and people there all have exceptional math background. One of my friends gets in and he is really really strong at math.

I wasn’t going to say anything otherwise, but I guess I’m one of the more qualified sources. I’ve worked with the M&TSI crew, spoken often with its leaders, and judged final projects at the end of the program. Some observations:

 1. The admissions rate is pretty high. Not that many people apply, because a lot of people don’t know about the program. There’s very little financial aid available - it’s a summer camp, not college.

 2. It will not affect your chances of admission to Penn. It will, however, help you decide whether you want to apply to M&T, and if you want to study business and engineering in college. You may find that this makes you a better applicant to Penn and many other schools. (Most HS students have no idea what Engineering or Business is)

 3. It’s an extremely busy and program. If you want to sit back and chill out during the summer, it’s not for you. You get your money’s worth - it’s the equivalent of 2 college classes in the course of 3 weeks. You’re expected to read and write at a very quick pace, and your time will be full with activity. There are also many field-trips during the program that offer unique opportunities but may wear you out. All that said, previous participants have commented on the hectic scheduling and this is a concern for the future of the program.

If there are more specific questions, feel free to post them. (Again, I was not personally in the program but I’ve watched it, tried to be a TA for it, and spoken often with its leaders about it.)
