Ross Preferred Admissions

Hello,

I plan to apply to University of Michigan LSA. My GPA and SAT's are not superb, but I feel I have a decent shot at admittance; however, I definitely do not feel like I am anywhere near a shoe-in nor would I call it a safety. It is a low reach/high match.

My interest and passion is business, as I have depicted through my EC's. I would not expect admittance at Ross for preferred admissions, but I would still like to give it a shot because, what's there to lose? Well, that is my question... :

Since I am not an extremely competitive LSA applicant to begin with, would it harm my regular LSA/UMich admittance chance by also applying for Ross Preferred Admissions?

I am worried that they will see I want to be in Ross, deem me unqualified, and therefor just toss my application.

My stats are not great, as I've said, but I have made some very impressive business achievements that I believe will make me stand out; however, I do not even want to risk it if it will harm my chance of being accepted to UMich in the first place.

Also, I am wondering if it looks bad to be rejected from Ross once (on preferrred admissions) then re-apply for sophomore year . (I heard from someone that it's better to have a clean slate with Ross and not risk the preferred admissions -- is there truth to this?)

Thank you!

In your main Michigan essay, you need to make it clear that your first priority is attending the University of Michigan. Definitely reference Ross in your essay, but also stress your keen interest in LSA and in your possible alternative major. If you do that, applying preadmit to Ross will not hurt your chances.
