Anyone know the acceptance rate? Is acceptance binding?

I’m applying too!! bump

I’ll be applying. I should probably start on the quiz…

Yea, I’m wondering if it will be binding too (wait, it’s my first choice, so w/e doesn’t really matter) because I’m applying to 3 other math camps too (basically the big ones minus PROMYS).

What exactly happens at ROSS?

Obviously, math. Lol. But anything unique?

I think you just learn number theory hard-core for 2 months, doing problem sets and having fun along the way.

Which ones are you applying to? I’m doing Ross, HCSSiM, maybe Mathcamp and PROMYS.

I think all the qualifying quizzes might just be too much for me to handle. I just turned 14, and my parents don’t want me to go, but I’m dying to taste some of summer math camps!!

I really want to go, and I really love math…but having a recent completion of algebra 1, will i be still be applicable for the program?

…got a 4.0 in math the first sem!

For those of you interested in the Ross Mathematics Program, there is a 2009 thread which may answer some of your questions.

Will you be allowed to be a few days late for Ross? I’m in 8th grade and my graduation falls a couple days after the beginning of camp… I COULD miss it, but I really don’t want to.

Clones:
Oh well 8th grade? I’m impressed!

2 questions:

Clones
I know that the Ross Program has allowed latecomers in the past, but it does make it a little more difficult because some basic material is taught. My son was a couple of days late last year due to some exams. Some of the work was either emailed to him or uploaded to the website so that he could work on some material before he went. The later you are the harder it is to catch up.

side note: some of the above response is from my son, who will be returning in June as a Junior Counselor (JC)

Im gonna apply, doubt ill be accepted.

jman13325: Don’t worry, I don’t think Ross is that competitive in terms of acceptance rate, but it is a really good program (yeah). I got the acceptance email this week. I might go this year, as I just got rejected from SSP because I’m over 17. :(

Is it necessary to include all of your work?

CCer999: You don’t need to include all your scratch work but you should include enough work to rigorously show your answer is correct.

I understand that they care more about HOW you solve a problem, but do most accepted kids get all of the questions right?

I really doubt most of the people at the camp got all of the questions right. Honestly, give how lacking the mathematical abilities are of some of the people at Ross, I don’t think Ross is particularly selective.

Well, it’s not that Ross students are dumb. However, the mathematical abilities of Ross students are also quite variable. The top quater or so of Ross students are very good at math and highly motivated. The bottom quater or so either are unable or unwilling to do the work and manage to waste almost all of their time. Luckily, these people spend almost all of their time at the gym so if you want to work you will rarely see them. Also unless you are extraordinarily brillant you will be challenged by the end. Though if you’re mainly focused on competition math you might want to go somewhere else. If you have other questions feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer them.
