Roswell Park Cancer Institute - High School Summer Internship 2015

Hey I thought I would start this early and ask if there were any applicants out there and how its going.

Also I am wondering what are the chances of being accepted and how many are accepted each year.

Good Luck!!!

Hi I’m applying too this year, and I have no idea how competitive this program is, but I hope to get in!

I am also applying this year. From what I heard, 250+ applicants apply for about 24 spots. It’s very selective

Really hoping I ger accepted though. It’s my dream lol

@mjj223 Oh no that sounds very competitive :frowning: i hope we all get in! but have any of your received a confirmation email or something indicating that your applications have been received?

i just mailed my materials yesterday. So far I’ve gotten an email saying my references were notified

Where are you guys applying from?

@mjj223 I am applying from North Carolina. you?

Illinois

Hey guys! I also applied this year. From Ohio,

Did anyone get a confirmation email or notice of some sort that says they recieved your application?

I received an email when my references had been notified to write letters and then again recently stating that some of my materials were missing. >:P

Hey! I didn’t officially apply to RPCI, but I was lucky enough to intern there anyway last summer. It’s a great place, and seriously if you stand outside on a windy day, it smells like cinnamon (there’s a cereal factory nearby, apparently!).
But yeah, everyone is really nice there (and the Dunkin Donuts in the lobby GIVES ME LIFE).

@marshmallowpop Thank you so much for your insight! when you were there how many other participants were there and allowed what were your credentials or like why do you think u got in, if you don’t mind me asking. Thank you!

@EveningSwan Same!! I just received one saying that the names of my references were still outstanding but their recommendations were received but I don’t understand?

@Sydneympm‌ like I said, I didn’t apply officially. To be honest, I pulled a few strings to get the spot (don’t worry, I didn’t take it from a deserving kid - the lab I was in doesn’t normally give out spots to general RPCI interns). The lab I was in had maybe 10-12 interns ranging from a 15 year old to graduate students, so I think I was in an atypical setting. Sorry I can’t help y’all more! I just wanted to pop in to say that it’s a great place.

And honestly, if you don’t get in the normal way, try calling the offices of doctors who do research there and asking for a spot. You won’t get a stipend or anything, but you’ll be there!

Hey guys! I hadn’t seen this thread before, but I applied and got an email saying my application was complete. I can’t wait until the 28th.

@marshmallowpop sorry that i completely read over that, where u said you didnt officially apply! opps but thank you so much!

@Smargent Where are you applying from? and I can wait either! I hope I get in but idk

I got the same thing

@Sydneympm‌ I’m applying from California, but I have a relative in Rochester, so it’s not really very odd.

hi guys - i am interested in applying but am wondering if this is just for the underprivileged or for everyone? i am interested in medicine - will this be good for me?
