Rounding 2.9949

I’m an engineering looking for an internship for the summer at my school’s upcoming career fair and we all know about how holy a 3.0 is and unfortunately I seemed to have missed the ship there. First off, I assume I can’t do much about rounding that to a 3.0 right?

Next off, do I even put my GPA on my resume? At this point I feel like I’m so ridiculously close to a 3.0 (or being able to round to it) that it would almost be a friendly icebreaker to have it there and light heartedly mention how close it was. Other than my GPA, I feel my resume is pretty solid for a sophomore at a well known engineering school with some good leadership and experience, but will I still be shunned by reps? Is there a good strategy to make them forget about my GPA possibly not meeting their requirements?

I really appreciate the help amigos.

Chances are you will have a more difficult time getting an internship due to your year than your GPA - companies want rising seniors, not rising juniors, so the pool of potential employers is greatly diminished. You are right that you can’t round up (unless you get that explicit recommendation from a career counselor… you would get that recommendation if the school reports GPAs to one decimal place instead of two or more).

If I were you, I’d just go with what I’ve got - you might find something anyway. Make sure not to prioritize your search for an internship over your grades; it should be more important to get your GPA above a 3.0 (preferably above a 3.2) this semester, as that will set you up for next year, which matters much more.
